i guess it would be rather lovely to be able to visit from time to time. and we'd probably bump into each other on the Downs or possibly ride out together when i get my new pone. but good or bad in other people's experience?

We have two ponies for sale and personally I would rather ours were much further away. We will really miss ours and out of sight, out of mind. Seeing one of them often would not be a good idea but thats just my opinion.
At the end of the day, a good home is more important than anything else.

If you think it is the right family - then no problem. Home is much more important tht the location........

If it's a good home and you have been completely honest about the pony then i don't see why not. You will only miss the pony badly until you get your new one and then he/she will be a very happy memory.

From the point of view of the buyer - all 3 of the ponies I look after come from homes within 5 miles. It's really nice to know the original owners are just down the road if you have any questions. They were all hacked to their new home and settled in really quickly. The only problem we had was with the New Forest mare who had once lived in the next door field as a youngster & within 24 hours had decided to return to it!
