Need a quick diy hayfeeder to stop asthma horsegobbling ans sticking her nose in piles of haylage. . Have a couple of these lying aroundIMG_2449.jpeg
Thought if I put a small hole in the bottom, I could fill a small hole haynet and put the rope through the hole and tie it underneath, so the haynet would be secured in the bucket? Any reasons why it wouldn’t work?
Also, thinking I could line a HayPlay (she can empty it in half an hour 🙄) with a haynet to slow her down?

Yes, I’ve done similar to good effect. You might get away with just trying to the handles- will be better if you can secure the whole trug to something like a fence? Be very careful/ reconsider though if the horse is shod. All of mine are barefoot and I’ve used this approach to feeding hay in the field to slow them down and reduce waste successfully. Ensure there are no loose bits of string anywhere. Using a carabina threaded through the runners of the haylage net was good too.

ETA just remembered I did this with the haylage net on the outside, so containing the trug within- no need to worry about securing the net then. Did act a bit like a football, but worked!!
