Good places to live and have horses

Surrey, South of Dorking (Leith Hill/Abinger) is absolutely fantastic, but you'd be dreaming, trying to get all that for £400,000 round here, even now.

I have a friend lives in Shropshire and it is lovely, but a bit isolated if you need particular jobs. She used to be curator of Wenlock Abbey, but how often does that come up!

I would agree that Lincolnshire can be difficult for hacking out and bridleways, but you can get some nice places near the coast and they are cheaper than properties within easy access of Lincoln, which we needed, so we were a bit restricted. It's a toss up between living further out, where there are certainly good properties and commuting to the bigger places, or being nearer and paying slightly more and perhaps not such good riding. We saw some lovely properties, but after years of long haul commuting, the one thing we wanted above all else was to be near work - otherwise you never get any time to do horses anyway. We then went for land, as we we figured the one thing you can change is the property, but you can't always get more land and we've been glad we did that, although house currently a building site.

Certainly worth a look though. If your job/s is/are such that you could work from home, I reckon you'd be laughing.

MrsM, at the time we were looking for ours, we came across a lovely property in Lincs, near Sleaford by the A17, it was way to small for us, but as I read your description it might suit you just fine. It is a small farm - 24 acres, 3 bed house in need of a bit of work, some traditional barns and a modern 45' x 45' building. The agent is Pygott and Crone in Sleaford and the farm is on the market for £350K, but has been advertised for a really good while now, link below:

Good luck with your search

Means that at times I can work from home, but atother times I might be need on site for all of each week - depends on the project and the client, and the site could be anywhere in the world though I try and stick to the UK (last suggestion was working for NATO in Afghanistan...

It's one of the reasons 'here' is so good - easy access to Birmingham and The North, yet still okay for London if go by train. I used to ride a motorbike from here to the City (London) and on a Monday morning it would take five hours

Luckily I could park in the underground garage otherwise I'd have had to add another hour on!

We're working on building up the company, which means more money so could buy round here; and I won't have to travel so much on an imposed regular basis
