Hi all,

Put this in the regional forum as well but thought more people might see it here..! Currently looking to relocate and the first thing on my mind is of course the horses!

Just wondering if anyone could recommend good horsey areas within easy commuting distance of south Manchester..? I've looked at some old threads recommending nice-sounding livery yards but we really want our own place so I'm guessing that's a bit of a taller order as you move closer to the city..? We currently live in the Peak District so have been completely spoilt with facilities & hacking but we're trying to reduce our commuting time so all ideas welcome!

We're looking for about 3-5 acres ideally with some kind of yard/shelter etc. but not a deal breaker as we can always get a mobile shelter & buy ourselves a nice shed from ebay :)

Thanks for your help!!

Unfortunately I think you will find this a bit tricky - land is in really short supply around the area and alot is very poor quality -hence you see place after place massively overstocked and the healthiest plant growing is ragwort:( I think I would look around Mottram, Wilmslow, possibly above Marple. You already know how hilly the ground can be of course! Whereabouts in the Peak District are you? I take it you are commuting into Manchester?

If you're looking to reduce your daily commute be very careful about choosing a yard in Mottram. Discount anything that you'd have to get to via Hattersley roundabout (the end of the M67) and/or down Mottram Moor, the traffic is HORRENDOUS. I've lived there for years and honestly, it will drive you batty and add a lot of time onto the yard run.

Most of the yards in the area either have poor turnout or no/rubbish schools, Hargate Hill has good facilities if you dont mind a busy yard, not sure what the turnout is like nowadays tbh though.
