Good places to ride in Herts / Beds and X country courses

Hi All

I have just purchased a horse box and wanted to start taking the horses out for different rides. We went to Whippendale woods on Saturday but we can not get the horse box in there as there is a width restriction. So we ended up going x country.
Ashridge woods want to charge us £58 a year to ride on there land, and I cant think of anywhere else that takes horses.

Any ideas??

Also does anyone know where there is a small x country course, we want to take the ponies x country but they are novices and so are the kids riding, most x country courses start at 2'6.

great westwood? has stuff much smaller than 2'6...

We have been to great westwood and they have removed some of the smaller jumps or made them into spreads, which for my novice pony and small children was not suitable they only had 2 jumps small enough suitable :-(

theres a UK chaser course in Beds somewhere - sorry long time since I've been. Also - for free, Kings Waldon a surrounding area, ny Hitchin Herts - used to keep horses near by and the hacking is spot on, for miles

yes, Potton you can hire out and that is quite nice and small and Chesfield I believe you can still hire out and they have a range from 2'3 to 3'3-3'6. Chesfield hold a lot of Pony club but you can enter in open classes so you could pop along and join in with that. We have been known to do that with our young or stupid ones

A friend of mine did something similar when she was still in North London and recommended the following 2 places as well as Great Westwood.

Hill House x country course is lovely - not sure what height the jumps start at but I really enjoyed it there.

great westwood is right next door to whipendale woods! My yard is also right next door its great

! Great westwood have jumps from 1ft logs up to 3ft+ fences and you can just pay for a permit to ride round

Would really reccomend it

Thanks for all your posts that bury farm looks fab!
We really wanted to go to Whippendale woods but there is no where to park our horse box!
All the car parks there have width restrictions. :-(
