Following on from my previous feeding post today...

I'm looking to buy some more hay or haylage for my girl.

I phoned a local(ish) farmer up and he can deliver me a big round bale of hay for £20 - he said it's made up of approx 10 bales of square baled hay.

Is this about right? (I'm in Nottinghamshire)

I did see an advert for big round bales priced at £8 each

but it was collection only

We sell hay for £2 a bale off the field, £3 out of the barn delivered for small bales. This year, we made 33 round bales on a field that we made 155 small bales on last year, so I don't think 1 round one equals 10 small ones. We would charge about £8 for round bales, £20 sounds a bit steep even including delivery, but I suppose it would depend on how many you are having.

wow I have to pay way more for small bales... £3.50-£4.00 a bale :0 the big bales are normally about £20 though

Just had 10 bales delivered, nice meadow hay £2.50 a bale guinea pigs have it as well, not the whole 10, theres only 2 of them, his lordship has most of it, well he will at some point

I paid £20 for a round bale delivered last spring when the grass hadn't quite come through. I expect to pay £2 per small bale off the field this year.
