Hi
i was wondering if anyone can recommend any good books or dvd's on the basics of riding. Ie correct aids for walk, trot, canter.
Also any on basic dressage such as half halts, turn on the fore hand, leg yeilding, shoulder in etc.
Depending on the horse i ride i sometimes find it hard to slow the horse in canter. I would also like to know how to feel which leg the horse is on in canter and if it is the correct leg etc.
Can anyone help? Have you read any books you found particulary useful and easy to understand?
Any feedback would be greatfully recieved
Thank you
Michelle

Its probably easier to learn these things by having someone actually teach you on the horse. If you just google the terms, eg 'turn on the forehand - horse', then I'm sure you'll get some tips! As for cantering on the correct lead, if you are on say a right handed circle, ask for the canter and close your eyes for a few strides and see if it feels 'comfortable', then look down and check to see if your horse is indeed on the correct lead. By doing this you will soon be able to just feel if horse is on right lead and won't need to look! But, as I said it is probably easier to learn by having lessons from a good instructor, good luck!
