Hello!

I am looking for a good riding school within 30-40 mins drive of central cambridge. I am a beginner as I am coming back to riding after a long break. Am really enjoying coming back to riding although realising that there is a lot of work to do! :)

I would be most grateful if someone could recommend a good yard for adult beginners with opportunities to eventually hack out and ideally a cross country course.

(Aware that there have been similar posts previously but they are all quite old now so wondering if anyone has any views since those.)

Thank you!

I learnt to ride as a child (I'm now 25) at Old Tiger Stables in Soham. I had lessons there until I was 18 and got my own horse. They're great, good range of horses and good instructors.

My ex's mum was learning to ride at the College of West Anglia in Milton, she always said they were good too.

Milton is apparently very good and can offer all the facilities you'd need. It's guaranteed to be run very well too as it's part of EA university and all the equine degree students work there, so I'd enquire there first.
There's also Sawston riding school, but they don't hack out. Slightly further afield there's Withersfield riding school.

When I was with the university riding club we did lessons at a stables in Yelling. It was called Hill Top. I can highly recommend it.

Thank you again! I have seen they are well recommended too. So enjoying getting back to riding. Very good for a reminder what is important in life!

You should try barley riding stables. It has a cross country course which i know you are after! But no indoor school...good hacking though x

thanks horseybohemian!

Mind, an indoor arena would just be a lovely to have but not something I would worry about too much. :-)
