Hi,
Having a nightmare with the slightly different sizes and shapes between brands and wasting a load of £ on poorly fitting rugs! My mare is pretty sturdy around her shoulders and neck and takes a 6'9''. Lots of rugs I've tried are tight around her shoulders and the full neck ones really don't allow enough room around her neck and shoulders for her to comfortably graze. I know a too long rug can slip back and cause this prob too, but 6'6'' rugs are def too short and don't cover her bottom well, def no need for more than 6'9'' so it really is just getting the right shape with enough space for nice broad shoulders.
Hot choc on this blowy evening for anyones help!

Hi, I bought a Rambo XL on recommendation from someone on here and it fits my chunkyish monkey a treat.
I have just bought a detachable neck for it aswell and it fits a treat.
The key to it fitting so well i think is the measuring of the rug which is slightly different to most. Here is the link:-

And here is the link where i bought it for what i found to be the best price, the link is for a LW but they also do MW & HW, you might not find the necks listed but just ring the up they can get whatever you want:-

Hope this helps

Yes, I found fals a bit tight around the chest, as well as Bucas and Mark Todd. I have horseware Ireland rugs now - Great quality and investment for yrs ahead (as long as you don't have a rug ripper!). My horse is ID cross but with a broad chest.

Another one for premier. Buy the ones with removable necks and they will oblige by swappin gthe neck if the standard one isn't quite right!

Strange, I've found Fals to be the best fit for both my current ID and my old Sec D - both very wide chested and big shouldered. My saddler who also fits and sells rugs also said that Fals were best for the wider horses.

Weatherbeeta freestyle rugs, my girl has a huge chest and shoulders. We had Fal last year and they rubbed, this year we have Weatherbeeta freestyle rugs and they're pretty much made to measure.

I asked a similar question a while back and ended up going for Premier Equine-got the Buster Trio and Stable Trio and they fit my WB perfectly. She has quite broad shoulders and takes 6ft9, but was having the same tight across the chest problems as you. The new premier Equine rugs fit her a treat though

some of the cobs at our yard are in premier equine and I have been impressed 1. durability ( on horses living out) 2. depth and 3. fit over the shoulders. The pictures on the adverts always look as if they are straining but doesn't seem to be the case in "real life"

another one for Fals as well and Rambo. I did have a Rhino but it was too tight..

I have a friesian, and Rambo XL are the only ones I can find that fit!! Unfortunatly they cost a lot!! I find it impossible to get anything to fit him, just got a new breast girth which is extra large and still too small on the chest!!

Try Ruggles, cheap and cheerful but the pleats are generous, and there are loads of adjustments (three rings to clip on to, plus buckles to adjust length of straps) so you can make loads of little tweaks to the front.

I have a full neck one on a HW cob, and one on a slightly long welsh cob with a big shoulder, and now little ones on two very different shaped ponies and all fit perfectly!!

I like the rambo ones with the leg arches. though this year Winston has a rug which was picked up at a sales unbranded for £15 and fits him fine its called sods law, hes a Heavy Irish Cob. Hes had premier equine b4 but ripped it to pieces which he will prob do to this one
