Im in Aberdeenshire and im looking to get my newly backed mare a new saddle and started looking in to whos a good fitter..boy the reviews seem to be so mixed and i am confused.com!!.

Anyone got any recommendations or 'stay clear' advice (pm if you dont want to say on here!!). my nearest saddler seems to be Sportack and i was also recommended Stirlingshire, anyone know what either of them are like?

Thanks in advance, Ang

Connie Weller, who is based in Elgin, would travel out to you. She can be a difficult lady to get a hold of sometimes though. :)

There aren't many up here I would recommend, but Stirlingshire will be up for Burgie in June. We get them to our yard every year and they fit for a bunch of people.

Give them a call and see if they'll swing in by you en route.

Andrew Sankey in bonnybridge or kay hastilow in fife, have used Kay and liked her, im looking at getting a saddle made for my mare and am in the process of looking at stuff by Andy at the moment, having seen what I can get from kay, then i'll make my mind up.

i have 2 saddles from andy sankey - jumping and dressage - both made to my specs - he was the only saddler i've tried up here who recognised that a normal off the peg saddle tree is too flat for my mare - after a year of trying standard makes and having lots of ridden troubles he came along - put a 'standard' tree against ther back - showed how it was bridging and pushing forwards into her shoulders (shes a little bum high) and then took out loads of other trees and held them up to her and found one that suited exactly (if not he'd have had one made to template)

his service was fab and i can't speak highly enough of the saddles - love them - and now have a happy mare who went from a choppy unhappy horse with muscle wastage to winning local show champions and we're just now venturing into eventing

i also think that value for money he's really good considering he's about the same price as an off the peg good saddle make (ideal, jeffries etc)

hes up your way on sunday - i know that as hes popping into me on the way back down to adjust my DR saddle ;)
(i say your way - but that's only from guessing from your description ) lol
