i need a GOOD saddler who will be able to take a fab quality Ideal of my hands and swap for a wider DR saddle. my normal saddler is brill but doesn't do 2nd hand saddles. the ideal i've got has been used about 10x and cost £800 new so i figure i should be able to get something nice if i swap it? so recomendations please for the north west? (but not village saddlery- they are a rip off in terms of mileage to get them out

Hi, what about Hilary Cox who works alongside of Saddles Direct? You can check what Saddles Direct have got in & then arrange to take your horse over to Arkenfield & Hilary will meet you there, costs £10 to hire the school to try before you buy, Hilary knocks her call out charge off the saddle if you buy and Saddles Direct will take your saddle in px. Got my daughters horse fixed up this way, would recommend her.

There is also Michelle Miller who will px a good saddle against the 2nd hand saddles she stocks.

Other than that there is Katie Topping, but i think she does not stock 2nd hand, but might be worth a call.

Let me know if you need any of the contact numbers.

oooh thats a possibility...will go have a look at arkenfield's website

its katie topping that i use- shes great but doesn't do 2nd hands, a pain when you have one you need to get rid of- plus a baby who i don't want to buy a brand new saddle for because he's going to change shape!

Diggerbez, i had real struggles to get a saddle to fit my daughters horse (back issues, last saddle ill-fitting, kept changing shape etc) we went to our appointment with Hilary and she measured him and picked about 10 saddles from the shop and every single one did not fit, ended up buying a Saddle Company Saddle which i have to say is brill, can be adjusted to fit any shape, is really lightweight and comfy, cost me £600 new and i got £300 for his old saddle, result.

Also, Katie is a Saddle Co fitter and carries the equipment to adjust them in her van.

hmmm i think what imight do is try and sell my ideal through saddles direct and then hopefully i'll have the money for katie to get me a new one? i used to have a T6 synthetic and it was awesome and really adjustable too...and not too pricey. thanks for the idea!

After a few saddle nightmares I now use David from Village Saddlery in Warrington and have never had any problems. He's not the cheapest but he's good and he's a master saddler as opposed to a saddle fitter

I bought an Albion SLK from him although he stocks various makes and he's always got plenty of stock.

Hope you get sorted soon.

yes have used david loads to fit great saddles but he's too expensive. katie topping used to work for him and i think she's just as good but much more local...

Have a look at Saddles Direct website to do this.
You pay for her to advertise your saddle on her website (I think it's £25 but it stays on until sold) but it has all your contact details and you keep hold of the saddle. If you bought the saddle from her, you can advertise for free on there, hence me not being sure of the price. I've bought my last few saddles off her.

If you want to part-ex it, she'll give you the same price regardless what you buy off her. Hilary is very good and thorough and they also have new saddles if you're really splashing out.
