I'm using (very gently) a metal curry and then a magic brush. I must look out my metal shedding blade, though. Old Horse has nearly finished though. Just his elbows and bits of his belly to go now.
I have 5 hairy Shetland ponies. I have tried all sorts of things over the years, but always come back to using a plastic curry comb and strong bristled dandy brush for shedding, then a flicker brush for tidying up. The process still takes some time. The mare in my avatar sheds copiously and the field can be dotted with little patches of white where she has shaken and/or rolled.
I use one of these which was actually bought for the dog and cat, but Ive found it great for moulting horses. I use it gently though - masses comes out and it doesnt get clogged with hair
