All my boots are Ariat and I have concord and ascent chaps. I find the zip at the back a pita.

Any recommendations for side zip chaps? Not for competition but I like to look smart. Thanks.

Prochap Fit. They're a Canadian brand, but you can pick them up on Ebay sometimes, and they are fantastic. Washable leather too - mine are ancient, and have been washed any times, and the leather is still great

I LOVE my Prochaps. I think you're the only other person I know who uses them. Gorgeous soft leather & mine are well used & still in great condition. I bought a black pair & haven't worn them yet as they just look too good!

Take a look at just chaps, I went to Badminton yesterday and tried on multiple pairs both side zip and back zip.
Lovely leather and a really smart fit/shap.
The ladies on the stall were lovely as well

I[m about to buy some more, as I jinxed myself, and have broken the zip pull-y bit on mine! i have had them for about 15 years though
I find it hard to get boots and chaps long enough, and Prochaps do a 19 height, which is perfect

My god you have long legs there!

My other chaps were all bought in store so I've never measured. Just measured and it turns out I have short lower legs. I'm 5'7 so quite surprised by this!

I've also got skinny calves so at the moment it's looking like only tredstep or just chaps have enough of a range of sizes.

The just chaps ones have some great reviews, and good price too.

Tredstep do a side zip one which is leather on the outside but suede on the inside to help with grip. They appeal. But also the medici which have quite a lot of mesh in them, but wierd looking but might be good for summer.

Hmmm, dont know what to go for!

I do also have some smart shiny half chaps from Mountain Horse that are designed to go with my Mountain Horse lined, lace up winter boots. This year due to my age and bad weather, I did not do much winter clothed riding. I found it hard to dismount in my winter clothes and boots, so stopped wearing them. But I do need wider half chaps to go over my thick boots and winter breeches.

It sounds like I am similar to you and can't recommend the Tonics half chaps enough. I can double check my size when I get home - I have long skinny calves as well and nothing has quite fit except these (I used to have Tredstep but don't like suede on the inside. It wears down and becomes super slippery).
