Hi everyone
After getting back into horses about a year ago I now find myself with a horse and pony to ride-- i know Im greedy hehe.they're not mine but owners are very kind to let me ride them whenever. Been riding the horse for a few months now all is well- we mainly hack. The pony I have very recently started riding is only 5 but very sweet and willing. ive mainly been doing lots of transitions on both reins and cirlces just trying to get to know what he's like really, absolutly love riding him already. got a lesson booked for next week but is there anythink you could think that I could be doing with him in the meantime or dya think just carry on as I am/any advice apprieciated. :D

Glad your getting back into riding and its nice that you have a lovely horse and pony 2 ride :D
Sounds if you are making good progress, i would carry on how you are going and just bond with yourhorse and pony as the realtionship between horse/pony and rider is essential :D Good Luck and lets us know how ur lesson goes :)

transitions and circles are a good start, but you don't want them getting bored, so could always add in a bit of variation, like asking for bend; serpentines; lenthening and shortening the strides; maybe a few trotting poles, that sort of thing. One I quite like is riding a 20m circle, ask them 'over' until it becomes a 10m circle (essentially you go around in a sort of spiral, but don't let them just cut inwards), and then you take it back out again.

But if your lesson is in a week, you could just hack out and enjoy the week until the instructor turns up and gives you homework. :-)

thanks for replies,i know i am made up to have them both to ride and bond with. yep i definatly dont want him to get bored and have done the spiraling in and out in lessons before(at riding school) good idea! didint think of that. will let you know how lesson goes im excited to get 'homework' for us to do lol. :D
