I am planning a trip to Doncaster sales in a couple of weeks (very excited!) and I have a few Sires that I know and like but not many.

Been browsing through the catalog and wondered if anyone had any suggestions of what bloodlines are good/bad etc Know the obvious ones but any other info would be great. Horse would be retrained to event.

Thanks

when we bought our TB, he was weatherbys reg etc and his stallion was Kris...an irish racehorse stallion.

one of my mums patients (shes a dentist lol) is like into racing and stuff and he said that Kris is a really good TB racehorse stallion...like one of the best in ireland? dont know if thats actually true but i think i believe him lol

dont know if that was the type of thing you were looking for^ ? xxx

my mare is Good Thyne damline and Alderbrook (Ardross) sire line. crap feet, but by far the bravest and straightest i've ever ridden xc.
the grey i had to ride last year was by Bimsey, who i'd never heard of, but he had a really classy careful round jump for a tb and was really sweet on the flat, with a lovely temperament, so i wouldn't avoid another of those if i saw one!

The Supreme Leader bloodlines produce very brave and pretty good looking horses. Lead the Way is by him and I have kept an eye on his career since he was a 5yo as I love Supreme Leader horses. Sadly he died a few years ago but one or two come through. I think its the Busted line that makes them brave as there are quite a few good eventers who have Busted.

i produced a horse i bought a doncaster for eventing and he is doing very well he was by an american horse called sri pekan and seemed very tough (horse is called toy ashanti under be if you want a look)

I have seen him out and about BEing in my area and he is lovely.

Eventing wise I wouldn't recommend Bollin William.

I have a half TB mare out of Bright Water - who is by Loch Pearl, out of Bright and Fair.

She has a fab temperament although is on the small side at only a tiny bit over 15HH, coupled with the fact that she's lumbered with me I can't see her making it past Novice and that's at a push. Having said this her size is down to the fact that some bright spark decided Warmblood + Welsh Sec A = British Sports Horse!

Bob is by Lord Americo who apparently is a fair eventing sire? Well Millbrook Song likes his stuff anyway

- and so do I of course

Loch Pearl was an HIS (now SHB) stallion, and my 4yo Jupiter's dam was by him: she is lovely mare with a fab temperament and v bold, went intermediate with me.

Busted is a favourite of mine, one of my mares has Bustiki/Bustino/Busted in her lines and one of my other mares has Grey Sovereign another favourite of mine and of course Nijinsky/Norther Dancer which I would imagine most TBs have somewhere in there.

I've just bought a 4 year old who's by Ghareeb, who is a Dancing Brave son (winner of the Arc, various Derby races etc. etc.), and I couldn't be more pleased with her. They tend to have a cracking jump and sweet trainable manner. certainly Polly Jackson has one that keeps jumping over electric fencing!

I would have another Double Trigger, Liked both the ones I have met, and I will put the showjumping down to the Welton crackerjack lines on the otherside

Like hensteeth in eventing though.

I have one that is unbelievably bold and scopey that is by Bold Fox (Bold Lad) out of a Rusticaro mare and on the basis of him, I'd go see any Bold Fox offspring. I like Alflora stock - they are sturdy looking and bold in my experience, jump textbook too. You will probably find someone will outbid you but do have a look out for Silver Patriarch stock. I don't think much of them racing-wise but a friend has one that is at 2* and looks like it will go all the way. Would also go looking at anything with Phardante in its pedigree - they have the best brains, sweetest temperament and not half bad jump. If in doubt, get an Irish one!!

Forgot to also say - if you can afford an Anshan one, get it!! They are cracking horses - sadly they are also damn good racers and therefore usually out of budget.

My horse has grey sovereign in her line, its where she gets her colour from. Shes brave, scopey but sensible and uncomplicated to ride.

too manyhorses26 horse has roberto as its grandfather, same as mine as well and robertos horses have huge jumps! Bob back is by him and bob back is one of the leading NH sires

, his son bobs return (my horses sire) has also sired many decent jumpers/chasers.

I know some one said Double trigger but i woulndt!! Lord americo are great jumpers but a little special so umm i would specificaly buy one for eventing, but then a youngser may be a lot different as i have one at work that had been to yogis and he loves him! Primative Rising lovely stamps of horses but they will be older now. TBH i think it would more be the dams sire to look at as the dam is where most things come from. Northern dancer and Saddlers Wells are good stallions all be it popular ones back a few generations. Buster is by Alhaarth? Who is a multi purpose flat/hurdle/jump/P2P stallion - think buster may be the only one eventing but i havnt really been looking. I know you cant get an impretion off just one horse but hes lovley so i think i would have another by him.

Sorry for the ramble!!

I'm crap with this bloodline thing but I have two Primitive Risings, both the straightest horses I have come across... plenty of character but unbelievably genuine

My TB came from Doncaster. He's by Mark of Esteem (Shirley Heights/Mill Reef lines) out of a mare by Busted. Bravest, most honest horse ever over any fence and loves to learn and work. Can be a bit quirky on the ground but straightforward when ridden.

Don't know huge amounts about TB breeding but I believe he's pretty well bred and certainly well put together - bought him for potential not breeding though ;-)

Never a truer word said people get so wrapped up in the sire when infact the dams side pedigree is more important.
The other advice for the sales is look at the horse first and pedigree last.

that's interesting, i have been specifically warned away from Primitive Rising lines (and particularly Primitive Proposal, v v quirky apparently!) SO many times that i didn't even look that way while looking for a stallion!
