Our little Tam is NOT well, and lots of good healing vibes would be really appreciated! When we went out to the field yesterday evening we discovered he had what look like rope burns on the front of his hind legs and a small puncture wound close to one hock. His hock and fetlock joints were very swollen, he was running a temperature, and his glands were up under his head .... Our wonderful vet was there in 20 minutes and gave him an injection to bring his temperature down, and a course of anti-biotics.

We are all completely puzzled about what on earth he had been doing - were the injuries related to his temperature and rasied glands, or maybe he had an infection that was separate from the injuries? Seems very unlikely. We have been back and forth across that field today with a fine tooth comb, and can't find any obvious spot where he might have got himself into trouble - and certainly no loose rope/wire/electric tape lying around ...... How do foals do it?!! Conjure injuries out of thin air! But our poor little Tam is now feeling very sorry for himself, and is definitely very stiff and under the weather. We are keeping a really close eye on him, and the mares and foals have been brought into the winter paddock close to the stables, as the vet advised to keep him out so that he was moving around. He would be very grateful for some "get well soon, Tam" vibes

oh wee soul hope he feels better soon, foals get them self into all sort of trouble and it is always a mystery and you end up having unanswered question

LOTS OF HEALING VIBES GOING WEE TAMS WAY

Lots of vibes for Tam on their way.

They do seem to get into scrapes - no matter what we do to try & stop it!

Oh no, fingers crossed for Tam

If it's any reassurance, my filly has had enlarged glands under her jaw (no other symptoms though) and vet said prob due to teeth erupting. Hopefully it's not related and it's one less thing to worry about

Thanks so much everyone, will keep you posted, and we have more crises now - poor eventrider has chipped a bone on her ankle and is out of action for a while, and feeling very fed up. So if Tam doesn't need quite as many healing vibes (I hope that he's beginnning to look better, the swelling does seem to be going down) I'll divert some her way!

The healing vibes definitely working, so many thanks! He was looking much brighter today, and the puffiness around his hocks and knees is much reduced, now seems to have descended to his fetlock joints, which the vet thought it might do if it was oedema - the immune system going into overdrive in reaction to some sort of trauma. So far so good .... just so scary when you can't even identify what's happened!
We have realised that we are going to be embarrassingly damp heaps on the floor when it comes to selling him, given our reaction to this present crises!! A question for the more experienced breeders, does selling foals ever get any easier??
