Good ways to break in tall boots? Thanks :-)

A pair of Dr Scholl heel raisers can be obtained from your local Boots the Chemists......yes, you will have to pay (not much!) but just in case you draw a blank with the Ariat suggestion from Oldie48.

Dubbin also seems to soften the leather well which will aid 'dropping'. Am sure you will now get a myriad of posts as to why you shouldn't use dubbin, but has worked for me for sixty years.

Tape behind your knee when you wear to afford some protection..... thick elastoplast/vetwrap. Or, get someone with a longer calf to wear them for you until they are more suitable for you.

Needless to say, wear them around the house to begin with....don't get straight on ned or that will be asking for trouble! ;)

Haha okay! Thanks for the info! I appreciate it! :)

Just sending the lovely ariat glaciers that arrived today back as they're too long. I can't take the risk that they won't drop. Why don't ariat do a short leg version!

I wore mine to work as that day I had a lot of walking around to do. They were so high I couldn't bend my knee properly. Tripped over and scratched them and bashed my knee on the rail 😁

So the next pair I gave to my longer legged friend to wear for 2 weeks. She gave them back all lovely and broken in! And I used Ariat heel raisers.

I think you were the poster asking about the tredsteps? they should have come with a little packet of insoles, there are heel raisers in there too so put those in and walk around a bit :)

Yeah! They feel solid as a cast haha! Did yours get a little crinckeld around the heel area after you'd brokern them in? Also would you reccomend I buy some breeches because the ways get snagged on my bottom bit of my jods!! They are great though

If it helps, the Glaciers do drop within a couple of wears (and then are so warm and comfy), but I appreciate that they are really expensive to take the risk.

I always use breeches for long boots as the jods are a bit bulky. They should crease a fair bit as they drop :)

Probably not ideal in winter, but stand in the water trough and soak them, and then ride - do that for a few days and they'll be fine, and the water won't damage good leather.

I was very sceptical when I bought my new cavallos, the lady that sold them to me (who is actually one of the most qualified equestrian outfitters I know, so I listened!!) advised this and I thought she was crazy, but it really works.

Mine fit like a glove to this day!

Been trying to break mine in for a while, think I'm just going to have to admit the fact they are just too long for me!!I walk like a robot in them, can bearly bend my leg!

Take them to a saddler's and get them to remove a cm or so from behind the knee and possibly reposition the tab (if it's got one)

Oooo I didn't know they could do that, will have a look into it. Depending on cost might just we worth getting some new ones as they were 2nd hand of ebay and not that much. And they still weren't worn in, prob why they sold them!! ha ha

Haha I'm going to ride my bike in boots and breeches this weekend to break them in, I am not looking forward to the stares :( hah

Ha ha, yes you will get some weird looks for sure!

I bought Ariat Volant's from the equestrian.com sale (£150!!) but the medium (height) were ridiculously long, I tried wearing them in the house twice but they would never have dropped enough. I found a 1/2 size smaller in short length on the same website so I bought those and then I posted on a local facebook page advertising the other ones - someone came the next day and bought them off me for exactly what I paid so it saved me returning them. My new shorter boots have arrived today and they are SO much better, perfect fit and only need to drop a little so I'm so glad I didn't battle on with the original ones which would never have been perfect.
