Good Weather approaching, do I ?

sorry to go against the grain here, but if you're planning on making small bale haylage, and you're cutting tomorrow and baling next day, i would get it turned at least three times tomorrow and twice on saturday morning before rowing up to bale.

suppose it depends whether your fields are sloping and face good wind or not, but if planning to bale quite soon, then i would turn it like mad! i think maybe you don't need to turn quite so much if you're making big bale haylage, but i know for small bales, it needs to be a tiny bit drier.

good luck!!!!!
xx

Man came and started cutting mine at 5 last night - it had taken him 6 hours to cut 4 acres thanks for a fuel injector issue

PRaying the sun gets its arse out of bed, it was sunny at 6 now looking over cast ffs

CUMMON SUNSHINE!!!!

come on sun !!!!!!!!!!!!! and............ come on contractor .......... if mine lets me down this time he will feel my wrath !!! ... does that sound good ? in reality I will probably say to him "what a shame" and use somone else ! but will have missed another opportunity

come on sun !!!

how is everyone getting on ? my guy turned up at midday today to cut and it should be baled Saturday (or Sunday if weather holds) really pleased - weed free lovely grass - he said it doesnt seem too thick and should make good haylage. We had blazing sunshine and abour 26 degrees today - weather looking good for Friday and Saturday too.

Fingers crossed for everyone

Mines still standing & they will be harvesting field behind it tomorrow, u hope they stick to one track & don't dump trailers etc in my feild or use it for turning...... grrrr

Forecast says rain possible sun/mon so seeing what it says tomorrow & possibly cutting tomorrow night if rain as vanished or if a few days of sun.appear after :(

Yay TJP - you can breath now !

Amanadaco2 - sounds like you will be one of the few to get hay rather than haylage during this little bit of good weather

ElleSkyWalker - I feel for you - it was soo hard in the last bit of good weather watching everyone elses being done and mine just standing there uncut - can you not put up row of posts and electric tape to give them a wide track ? fingers crossed for you.

I think my contractor likes a bit of drama - turned up saying didnt want to be there really (but with a smile) then said "not sure you will get good haylage of this" when he had cut I asked again and he said "should make really good haylage you will easilly sell this !!" but .. then said oooh not sure I can wrap till sunday !! (rain due sat night !) why is it such a drama ? I am the client not a nusiance !! he said how he could have been doing 5 acres in the time he took to travel to me and cut 2 ! I smiled said thank you and then he chatted for 45 minutes b4 leaving ! ahhhhhh oh and he also said he isnt even sure he can get the wrapper yet !

Meesha I feel for you! We didn't get the weather promised yesterday, it was cloudy and close with big thunderhead clouds all around (but thankfully not overhead!), then today it is gorgeous but tomorrow it's meant to be breaking. I'm trying to get hold of the baler man to say I'd rather it was baled this evening than that I was in competition with loads of other people to get it done tomorrow morning (when it will probably be a bit dewy anyway) before the rain comes in.

my sun dance has worked this end - 2 days of 26 degrees and bright sunshine and a good day tomorrow - if my chap cant wrap saturday night but has baled I will be moving all my bales into one pile and covering as he has a static wrapper - better a few hours of work than damp yucky hay.

I would be with you on getting it baled this evening - it must be better to bale evening rather than morning regardless of weather - hope it all turns out ok.

Id get it done ASAP. We had a 3 day sunny, windy window which we managed to get ours cut, baled and put away about 2 weeks ago. Its the wind more than anything you need to dry it out super quick. Good luck! We didnt even plan to do ours, we had just let the grass get really long as horses are on restricted turnout this time of year so mum suggested it to the farmer - he came down the next day to cut it and amazingly he says its brilliant stuff!! Best way to do it, otherwise you always end up stressing about when the best time to do it is and then you have to pray for the weather to stay nice while its out.

And we're rowing up .............................. :D

And it's looking good! Still keeping an eye on that big mountain though in case there's a sneaky black cloud about to pop over it ;)

Magic Melon, much the same as my situation - glad to hear yours turned out ok - my contractor rang today to say he thinks it will make hay so no need to do haylage - much cheaper - yeeeehhhh ! 26 degree weather and a light breeze and its not as thick as we thought, even he was suprised, he turned twice today and wil turn once or twice tomorrow b4 baling - hopefully should save me about £300 !!!!

............ and it's a wrap folks!! :D

And beautiful stuff it is too, lucky horses ;)

Now waiting on our shared bale lifter to reappear so we can bring it all in - looks like a late one for OH tonight lol!

Mines been turned twice, needs turning again tomorrow morning then a lot of sun if we are to bale tomorrow night :( Over cast for several hours today has slowed it down grr

OH is still out there in the dark, manfully bringing them all in now that the lifter has finally arrived. All I can hear all around is the sound of tractors and machinery as the whole neighbourhood is frantically trying to get it all in before the weather changes tomorrow. I am so glad mine is done :)

Raining here since last night (not that I care :D) and all the oil that fell out of the baler has washed all over the yard and down the drive - rainbow patterns everywhere  Still at least they turned up! :)

I got hay ! yippeeee thought they were going to have to do haylage but 26 degree sunshine and not too heavy a crop means that I have hay !

We moved 150 bales in just over an hour (me and other half) rather than using equitrek which involves stopping, dropping ramp, swinging open 2 doors and swinging partition we borrowed freinds flat bed trailer which holds about 18 at a time - soooooo much easier would def recommend - also helped that this time the guy baling dropped them in groups of 8 rather than randomly over field !!

good luck to everyone else still waiting.

I feel like we must be the last people in the country without ours cut :(

Most other fields round here are cut and it's just us left - let down again by our very unreliable contractor last week when there was enough days to do it, so very disappointed.

If anyone knows of a normally reliable contractor (we are trying to make big bale haylage) in Gloucestershire, please let me know!!

An indeed super mad rowreach & TJP :( :(

That have harvested the rape now nut still need to plough it so even if we get some nice weather still can't cut it as they will just ramble all over it, dispite my asking them to stick to one path & not leave trailers willy nilly all over the place squishing yet more grass.......
