i do know i wouldn`t like anyone like that near my ponies.
lets hope that she matures and so does not feel the need to throw her weight around.if it comes to brute force the horse will win.we must use tact to overcome differences of opinion.

[/ QUOTE ]

Oh tosh. I can quite see why she would be upset by people like you making comments like this. It is fine to disagree with the way someone disciplines their horse, but you are basically calling her a horse abuser who isn't mature enough to deal with a horse. That is uncalled for.

She knows her horse and its nature better than anyone else - who are you to tell anyone what they "must" and "must not" do with regards to disciplining their own horse.

Because kicking the pony to make it stand was something she thought was right because her dad did it. Not standing still is not an act of stubborn disobedience, its just being fidgety, or nervous or whatever. She felt ashamed of it because she realised to punish a horse for that in that fashion wasn't helpful or constructive.

In the situation where she smacked her horse, the mare was being deliberately obtuse. She had tried several methods for a long time, and the mare refused to go forwards out of stubborness - she has owned the mare long enough to know what is genuine fear and what is naughtiness. The firm discipline she gave worked, and the mare behaved thereafter - it was an effective lesson.

Might not be how you would handle the situation but I don't believe you have any right to tell her shes not mature enough, or shouldn't have behaved how she did.

Well to be fair, Miz, did describe her horse as an RSPCA case. Whether that was actually said tongue in cheek or whether this was the excuse she made to try to lighten the tellings off she was getting, none of us know. Anyway, to use your own quote "I can quite see why she would be upset by people like you making comments like this", the same applies when people read that someones horse looks like an RSPCA case.....

It's not big and it's not clever to whip horses excessively; however only Miz knows the truth; I was surprised to read yet another post about her hitting her pony when she was a child though; and all the while saying she had learned her mistake - perhaps some would beg to differ?

It was not long however before she did clarify the comment was tongue in cheek and that the marks were only raised a short time and disappeared after a couple of hours.

I do not think she whipped her horse to be clever or big, I think she did it because the mare was being exceedingly obstinate and would not respond to any other method. Maybe this wouldn't be your way, but it worked, and the mare is absolutely fine again.

In fact she did explain this numerous times, so I think it is unfair and unnecessary fpr cahill to basically call somebody a horse abuser weeks after the post in question - it is not as though she routinely beats her horse at every opportunity.

To be perfectly honest Spiral, unless anyone knows anyone else on here personally then I don't think any of us can categorically state anything that someone else says as fact. Miz may well be a serial horse beater for all we know - on the other hand she may not even have a horse and could even be some 12 year old boy with an over vivid imagination.

Perfectly true - none of us do know. But as far as her word goes, which is all we have from anyone really, shes not a serial horse beater - and unless anyone has evidence to the contrary, I still think its an unfair and unnecessary comment to make.

we should say thank you and goodnight to this post now, there has been far to much on this topic and now im bored, she maybe young and innocent but dont air your laundry in public not something that is going to be detrimental to yourself !!! what did she expect !!

people have ben called worse

OP knows she is quite welcome here, as everyone is. If she chooses to stay or go is her decision. I do hope she stays and learns from the forum.
