yesterday I said goodbye to the oldest member of my herd and my first pony. The one who started it all. I’m so lucky to have loved her for as long as I did. She was in her mid 30s and with me for over 20 years. They don’t make ponies like her anymore, you know those wonderful mixtures of all sorts that were typically grey and tough as old boots. She taught me (and so many other children) everything and owed me nothing. People say it’s the hardest decision but it wasn’t. In that moment I knew exactly what I had to do and didn’t hesitate, but I’m incredibly sad it was colic because of the pain. I hoped one day that she would just lay down in the field and go to sleep but they never do.
To my sweet old girl, thank you Heather
