yesterday I said goodbye to the oldest member of my herd and my first pony. The one who started it all. I’m so lucky to have loved her for as long as I did. She was in her mid 30s and with me for over 20 years. They don’t make ponies like her anymore, you know those wonderful mixtures of all sorts that were typically grey and tough as old boots. She taught me (and so many other children) everything and owed me nothing. People say it’s the hardest decision but it wasn’t. In that moment I knew exactly what I had to do and didn’t hesitate, but I’m incredibly sad it was colic because of the pain. I hoped one day that she would just lay down in the field and go to sleep but they never do.
To my sweet old girl, thank you Heather

I lost my last one at a similar age and also to colic, and I had owned him for over 20yrs too. I know what you mean about the decision being easy as it is clear they are suffering, but I hope you are ok as fatal colic is a horrid thing to see them go through. I am so sorry for your loss; she sounds like an amazing, kind pony who made a big impression on those who knew her.

She looks like my old girl I lost last year. She was also tough as old boots. I’m sorry she’s gone and leaves such a big hole, but you must have done something right to keep her so long. Look after yourself x

Sorry to hear of your loss. We all wish for peaceful endings but it sounds like you gave her that quickly despite the colic. Hugs for you.
Heather sounds like one of those superstar ponies all horse lovers dream of and a few get to really enjoy for decades. What a treasured time she had with you and you with her xx
