Sorry to post such a downbeat thread but some of you will have seen my FB status and some I don't know but who very kindly sponsored us last year at Cheltenham.
Emerald ran in our members race at Vale of Lune point to point on Saturday, he ran a foot perfect race ridden with tact and care by Oscar Churton.
He jumped round really well, weakened just before the last fence and Oscar eased him home. I went to lead him in and told him over and over how fab he was, he then collapsed and died in the parade ring.
Huge thanks to the Master and Hunt Staff of the Vale of Lune who were tactful, calm and effecient.
I now have a huge very odd shaped hole in my heart and life, but it was a privilege to have known him for the best years of his life and it is comforting knowing he went in typical Emerald fashion.
A link to the photo's of the race for those who don't mind shedding tear. (click on the right of the photos for the next ones)

RIP Emerald. Thoughts and hugs go to all who knew him.

Those pictures are lovely, and knowing he went doing something he loved must be of great comfort XxXxX

Oh nooo, how devastating to lose such a lovely talented horse in his prime. I'm so sorry, he was really special and i always loved reading about him. Hope you're remembering the good times as well.

OMG im in total shocking and welling up, I can't even begin to imagine how you are feeling right now. So sorry for you, but at least it was quick and he died doing what he loved.

Masses of hugs and sympathy for you E xxx

So sorry to hear this :(

He was a very very handsome boy and looked like he was enjoying life to the full right to the end {hugs}

Again, I am so very sorry that you lost such a superstar. I love this photo , he is just stunning. He definitely went out on a high though, doing what he loved best. But that doesn't make it much easier for you as he will leave such a hole. :( Heartbreaking. :(

Hope you are doing ok.

Ditto M_M :( I have been waiting for you to post this after FB yesterday... I guess you have some wonderful, and quirky, memories of him but I daresay that doesn't help much right now, and it must have been the most terrible shock the way it happened. A wonderful way to go from his point of view, but devastating for those he left behind. At least know you are in my thoughts, and those of many others...

Oh no, how utterly devastating for you. I really enjoyed reading your updates. Massive hugs. RIP Emerald.

So, so sorry for your loss of such a special horse :(

Special and speshul! Thanks to everyone. I will miss the adventure of the left-right-stop-go game on hacks, the 5ft6 over 3ft rails while hunting, and even the game of chicken trying to walk through the field without being attacked or pounced on, in fact I will miss just about everything .......

What a terrible thing to happen and no words can probably describe how you feel. However, please be very proud that you looked after and produced a very handsome chap. The photgraphs of him from Saturday look stunning and he looked very much at home and couldn't wait to get going to get on with his job.

Take comfort that it was quick and painless for him and he did hear you telling him he was a very clever boy and that he went in peace. In some respects a fitting end to a faithful friend doing what he loved.

It is just a reminder to us all that we never know what is around the corner and should make the best of it while it lasts.

Thoughts are with you and everyone connected with him x
