I have booked my flights and I am going. I am looking for a showjumper 4-6 years old, preferably mare and not grey. I want something with decent breeding if it is mare.

Questions:
What sort of price would I need to pay?
Are there any sellers I should avoid (if so, please PM me with details)?
Has anyone bought from there - was it successful?
Is anyone else going?

Here is the link - the catalogue is on there - looks to be plenty of choice

There is plenty of choice at Goresbridge, good horses tho aren't cheap. Plenty of dealers there looking for the next superstar for no money! Its a great experience I've been a couple of times. There are so many horses you have to have your wits about you to see them all

I've been to Goresbridge many times and there are always a couple of bargains to be had... I haven't bought a horse from there myself, but I have several friends who have and they haven't had any problems with horses they've bought

A friend bought a horse there last year and paid £6K for a 4yr old that had done nothing but had good breeding. From what I have heard you are unlikely to get a bargain, unless incredibly lucky, although you will definitely see some very nice horses

you used to be able to get a bargain but prices have gone up over the years. do remember to use the re-vetting service and this needs to paid in euros. have fun i love it over there just for the experience more than anything. don't forget you have to add the commision and vat on the sale price.

Ditto everyone else. Few bargains to be had in sales in Ireland any more. Most might be genuine sales but you do need to try and keep track of the oens you like, be there early and see them in the stable to get an idea of temperament then watch them from being mounted to jumping. This is easier said than done!

Hi,

Hope you've a good time! It's not that far from me so go often. As others have said bargins are few and far between now days-even over here! In saying that though you should be able to get a decent horse for fair money. Have know lots of successes and many disasters from there, as with every auction/sale. Agree with the comment about re vetting. If there are any numbers in the catalogue that you have a special eye on then feel free to PM me and I'll be happy to let you know anything about them that I can! Keep your wits about you and you'll have a great time.

I'll be the voice of dissent - I bought this lad for €1,750 (£1,350) at the November sales. 7yo, well bred USA TB. Well put together, built uphill. Out doing Affiliated dressage in January after only 2 months schooling. Trainer enthuses about him being a "sane, sensible type" and one who really wants to please you. He saw XC fences for the first time last month and was happily giving older horses a lead over the Novice options including water etc.

Couldn't be happier with him.

However, there was several English dealers over and anything steretypically Irish (dun connie, greys with ISH breding) were snapped up for quite high prices. Also, 70% went unsold (reserve not met) in November!

Happy to have a look at these in the cat but do you have any narrower parameters for your search? I mean regarding height/future ambitions/experience required/temperment/Traditional ISH/Wbx/TB etc as have looked at the first few on the list and there is quite a bit of variety!

I am looking for 16hh to 16.3hh, a mare, 4-6 years old, with scope to jump up to 1.20. I like forward going but not silly, definitely no rearing or nasty bucking. It needs to have been out a little bit, either hunting or training shows and needs to travel ok.

Not all my list meet this criteria. I have chosen a couple outside these requirements because either they have breeding that I like or are an interesting colour. I love duns, coloureds and roans but will not pay over the odds for the right colour.

One thing I'll say - for get the catalofue, forget the breeding and just look at the horse they present in the ring!
