Do any of you lovely people have some Goresbridge sport horse sale experiences to tell me about? I'd really like to know if it's possible to try the horses out prior to the sale, although not too long before obviously! Thanks.
 
Most owners if you ask them will let you have a little ride before the auction after all its in their interest! It is really up to the individual seller though and obviously you need to be dressed properly for riding inc. a hat. Don't be insulted if they say no though as some are afraid that another rider may make their horse look bad especially if the rider is a novice. Its a good time to buy in Ireland, prices have really come down so good luck!
 
Hi, we buy from Goresbridge and Cavan frequently and have found all the sellers to be happy for you to trial ride before the auction. We have bought some lovely young horses from there but you really have to have your eyes wide open! Prices have fallen a lot recently but so has the quality of a lot of the entries. I would definately advise a re vetting and bloods. Personally I prefer Cavan as the trial facilities are so much better an also its all undercover so I dont get wet!!!
 
How far in advance are you talking? When do the horses get there? And when you say re-vet do you do it pre-purchase? Because I guess you could end up forking out for 10 vettings if there were that many animals you liked!
 
Yes, most will let you sit up if you ask and are appropriately dressed. This only occurs during the "showing" which is the day of the auction and starts at about 9am. Horses will be shown ridden/lunged right up until they go into the ring.

Definitely re-vet if possible; some horses will come with a vet cert. but you have the option of the resident vet re-vetting after you have bought the horse and if it's spun you are released from the contract to buy.

My little TB came from there, he's a star and now does Elementary dressage, HTing, SJing and hunts without a second thought.
