Anyone whos been would you reccomend buying a 4yo that is allready broken? I bought a unbroken 3yo last year and was thinking about getting either a 3/4yo that was already broken as i dont have great facilities anymore. also price wise do 4yo sell for more? pm me if youd rather. Thanks

well with an older horse- yes even a 4 yr old- it may b that you are buying other peoples problems and is likely to have been tried already! if you are prepared to take a risk that may or may not pay off go ahead.

we had a horse last yr- a 4 yr old- jumped well but no superstar and we got bid very very bad money for her ( the pirces r way cheaper for 4 yr olds) so she came home. she has now been out competign this yr and has qualifed already for big 5 yr old jumping classes so someone cud ahve got a real bargain!

Yes i would - Rock came from Goresbridge via a dealer as a just broken 4year old - when i get my yard im planning on taking a trip there to get my first few young horses to bring on.
However as sherwood said you do buy other peoples problems. I was lucky Rock was so willing - turns out 'just broken' meant he was broken, the day he was backed he went hunting, hunted again two weeks after that and then went to the sales, so really only ridden twice in his life, both times hunting.

i went last yearand alot of people we spoke to said that the horses were overpriced

Thats what I heard, also heard that the Irish are keeping the good horses and the sales are full of c*ap...no offence meant to Irish peeps!

Shame as Goresbridge is only 150 miles from me (including the Irish Sea), may pop over in the summer to the TB auction.

I'd dispute that - can't find a copy of the Field to hand but as far as I remember the top lot last time was a spotty mare for €18k and they ranged from there down to about 1.8k/2.2k with average being 3.5-6k

You'll definitely get a better deal via breeders/studs but some good'uns go through the sales still

No offence taken!! I agree alot of horses are now sent to the sales when they can't be sold privately. Horses over here in general are overpriced at the moment I think. I've also heard of a few horses who have failed a private vetting but passed the sales vetting!!

The Sport Horse Performance Sale is on May 22nd, 23rd & 24th

Jumping starts at 9.30 & sale starts @ 11am and the catalogue is available online!

yes i printed it off this morning, hoping dad can get time off work and come with me, i briefly look at the catalogue but i prefer to walk round and see every horse that takes my fancy

Have never bought there but have sold there - re the vettings my old vet was a panel vet for Goresbridge & is notoriously difficult to get to pass a horse - he failed 4 on me before I found Sid!

Good luck hope you find a bargain!

The bay in my siggy is from Goresbridge, he was £9500 as a 4yr old, broken, young dressage prospect.

horses prices are high these days, yes there are bargains to be had but true bargains are few and far between!
