Hi all just thought I would share this with you all, my friend went to a well respected dealer yesterday and picked up a nice ISH for a weeks trials she schooled him and hacked him out and apart from a high head carrage he seemed perfect! So the dealer gave her his pasport, so today she hacked him out in company and she had a little niggle that something was not right.

So when she got home she traced his old owners in ireland, and spoke to her and when she mentioned the horses name she went silent and told her that she sold him to a dealer in ireland for meat money, as he was a vertical rearer and itf he ever meet hounds or went out on his own he was a danger to himself and the rider and needed to be put down. The dealer obviously couldnt sell him in ireland as it was easy to check his past so 3 weeks ago he sent it to the UK with no history, and my friend picked him up it is so lucky she checked his history as her daughter was due to take him for a sponsored ride on sunday which would have been so dangerous on him. The lady in ireland asked her not to tell the dealer in this country about his history but she feels that it is her duty to pass on the info as he has no idea and it could be so dangerous. It is such a shame as the horse is so lovely on the ground!!!

Does anyone else trace the hostory of horses, Its just so scary to think what could have happened!!

Wine for reading this!!!

I am horse hunting at the moment and I am finding it extremely stressful.

So many I have looked at seem great on the surface but then when you dig deeper they have so many problems.

Still I am sure the right one is out there

I havent, ive got all mine from Brownbred horse rescue, so i know they are all nutters!!!

to be honest, i probably wouldnt bother, however i would take it on a probation period, rather than straight out sale! But i am the worlds lazyest person!
With Regards to Rearers, i have a highland X tb that does that as his party trick, and even managed to hopp bunny rabbit style! and i did alot alot alot of research on stopping it, and tried about a million tricks to stop it, and the one i found worked the best was hacking out with a raw egg! and when he went up, i cracked the egg between his ears, and apparently it causes the horse to think he's hit his head and is bleeding, and consequently doesnt do it anymore = u may need to use this a couple of times - the issue is, carrying the egg until he rears - i ended up sellotaping the egg to his bridle!!

Good luck with the horse if she cant take him back!

just starting the hunt myself and after finding on paper the perfect horse we went to veiw.. all was well, a 2 mile hack out with the step daughter on board was perfect, partner rode him and again spot on. we had to catch him and bearing in mind he didnt know him from adam and he was in a 25 acre feild we just walked up to him and put a head coller on. lovely nature perfect in everyway except i kept looking at him thinking he's not tall enough for 14.2?

now bearing in mind i'm not a horsey person i dismissed it till we asked to check his height......yep you guessed it short...13.3!!!

We then got a load of BS about him growing another .1 or .2 hands. now bearing in mind he was 6 this is pretty unlikely put me right off.

so we now wont use that dealer as i dont trust them and have moved on to somewhere else

I haven't actually ever checked any horses past but this has really made me think otherwise!
What a lucky escape!!!
I am rather annoyed to hear that the owner sold him to a dealer, if he is such a danger then she should have had it put down if she think that is what should happen to him and not have passed him on.
I dread to think what may happen if he is sold on again and the owners do not check his past and take him out into that situation, doesn't bare thinking about.

It's a shame the dealer in Ireland can't be somehow held at least partially responsible for this. Glad nothing awful happened to your friend, that could have been horrendous.

Sorry Lui, but sending that horse back to the dealer will only mean that some other poor person will end up with this horse, and possibly both the person and the horse could be (seriously) injured.

I think your friend has a duty to tell the dealer (whether the dealer passes it on or not though is doubtful) before someone gets hurt.

My friend sold her horse to a dealer for near enough meat money. She pointed out all is faults i.e wouldn't hack out on his own, wouldn't tie up, wouldn't stay in field on his own etc, etc. A couple of weeks later she got a phone call from a very posh lady saying she had brought the horse from the dealer for over £4,000 and hadn't been told of any of these problems. It wasn't until he started being a nightmare at home she decided to check his history out. My friend told her on the phone that she had gone into great detail about his problems with the dealer which he obviously chose to ignore! I would always try and check out as much history as I could before I brought a horse and it could stop alot of heartache in the long run.
