Gosh, I am so excited!! Have spoken to Environmental Health

I had already considered heating. Wasn't sure whether to just go with a heat lamp or the flexi-guard heaters. Either way, it was definitely factored in.

Will have to have a good dig about in the paperwork (when it arrives through the post) as it wouldn't be very cost effective to have to build a brick "house" for a kitchen with hot/cold water, toilet etc just for two kennels.

As lots of other people seem to offer a similar service (when googling) there must be some leeway with the legislations between local councils to take into account the size of the venture? I'm not talking about leeway with the spec of the kennels, but with separate fully fitted kitchens etc.

It's not all signed and sealed yet but hubby did say tonight that if I wanted to make a "proper go of it" I might as well utilise some of his invested savings to "do it right" from the offset. Saves a bank loan if we're looking at more in terms of start up costs than the initial home boarding I thought of doing.

Thanks everyone for your advice

ermm I haven't read all the replies in this post but just a wee thought about the sheeting in the photo which is only half way up the wall - I would perhaps cover all the wood up? Or ideally not use wood at all. I was working in a kennel a few weeks ago and this dog had somehow ripped his ear and there was blood EVERYWHERE. and i mean everywhere! even the ceiling! And when muddy dogs come in from whatever exercise you plan and have a good shake I dont think wood would be very practical :) However with the concrete kennels I've worked in there was mould forming in places that had not been scrubbed and dried out properly. Also you might want at least one bigger run/kennel incase you get 2 or 3 dogs in a family :)

Alsooooo I don't know how your actual set up is going to be but don't have dogs facing directly at each other! Can lead to alot of eyeballing and stress!!! And those corridors that alot of kennels have where you have to walk the dog too and from its kennel past a string of other dogs barking away at it.... its not nice, when I have to kennel my dog he will NOT be going to such a kennel as he'd freak!
