Last night and for the last few nights of grooming the big fat one.....I'm creating so much static electric that the poor boy has nearly jumped out of his skin.....and last night touched him on his lips and he turned into a "snorting, one hand higher and I really want to bolt" cob, any one else having this problem!

Someone at the yard yesterday gave their horse an electric shock (not sure how, but that is what she said) and horse jumped out of it's skin

I used to ride bareback a lot, and whenever I'd dismount we'd bother get a massive shock! I think it was my trousers, but it totally out me off riding bareback lol. He'd just look at me like I'd whacked him or something

I did this with my 3.5yo. His rug created some static and he got it on the lips when he came to say hello. He was snorting and going mad! I've found now that when I take off his rug (fleecy underrug only creates this effect) I then touch the auto waterer in his stable to dischage the electricity from myself and then give him a big solid pat on the neck so if there is a shock it wont be so bad. I learnt this from my sis who has the same problem with her baby on a plastic slide at playgroup. Whenever she picked her up at the bottom she got a shock and was upset so she decided to do a "high five" which her evertime she went down the slide and although the shock was still there she didn't notice.

I had this when I'd only had our PBA a few weeks - she hadn't been handled much and we were getting her used to us, being in a stable and being handled and things were going really well. Then I got her used to velcro - no problems - as a prelude to putting rug with a velcro chest fastening on. Put the rug on and she was great, calm and happy, took the rug off, she flattened a bit but again no real problem, went to fondle her ear because she'd been so good and ZAP! Dirty great big static spark, she went hysterical, bucking and snorting round her box. She's still a little nervous about rugs coming off and really doesn't like me touching her ears. I suppose it would have been better if I hadn't thought at the time "I know, we'd better do that whole thing again so she's not frightened" - even down to the static shock again

I used to get shocks all the time and poor Dutchie got shocks from me a few times and when I used a rug to warm up with taking it off would sometimes create some static but luckily they never reacted, especially Winni Pu as he would have gone a little scared!
