Was just wondering if what something was.

My horses soles are quite flaky....i dont want to start worrying or anything just wondered if there is something i can do to stop them being flaky...?

thanks

If he is shod it's natural to get a build up of false sole as it isn't being exfoliated from contact with the ground, so it's most likely nothing to worry about.

If he is unshod then as long as he isn't just out of shoes and at the exfoliation stage, you can use Keratex hoof hardener a couple of times a week on the sole, avoiding the frog. You could use this on a shod horse too.

If there is any blackness or smell you may have some thrush to deal with; there are lots of things to knock that on the head. I use Absorbine Hooflex Thrush Remedy. If your horse is unshod you can also do a 10 minute soak in 50% Milton fluid solution once in a while.

thanks
