Herbie has had to come into a stable for a bit as his field is turning to mud in all this rain. :(
Last night I went down late to skip him out, top up his water and give him some more hay and nuts. First I went in to skip him out and Herbs followed me round the stable. then I did his water and he followed me round again. I thought he was wanting me to get his hay. Next I went to get his hay and nuts. I went to put his haynet in first and was expecting him to mug me for it. But he followed me round his stable waited for me to tie it up then followed me back to the door. "OH I thought you want your nuts" I put them in the stable for him but he stood there for a min looking at me. Then he shoved his head under my arm. It was then I realised he wanted a cuddle.
I have to admit it was at this point I got emotional and shed a little tear. My pony realy does love me. It's taken nearly 3 years but he does realy love me. We stood having kisses and cuddles for a while then I left him to eat his food.

I just wanted to say to all those having trouble with there horses. Stick with them, it will all be worth it in the end. It's times like this that make me so very glad I didn't listen to all those who told me to give up on Herbie and send him to the sales for the meat man to buy.
Herbs can still be very horrid sometimes but I still love him. It's what makes him him and I wouldn't have him any other way. I know he loves me deep down inside. He's such a special pony and i'm so glad he's mine. :D
I made this video a while ago but I love it so thought I'd share it here again. Fits this thread nicely I think. :D

That's a lovely message Laura :)

I felt a little bit loved by mine yesterday afternoon as I arrived on the yard after 2 days away and he screamed from his stable when he heard my car and then stood staring at me -he had hay and is done by a friend mon-fri so he had all food and comforts so it must have been me. I swear he looked happy to see me (and extra carrots ;) )

That is lovely! Well done for sticking with him. I 'rescued' a late (11 years old!) gelded ex working stallion when he was 12. I had him for a further 12 years. Although he could be "quirky" (also known as "downright dangerous" to my friends!) He was my horse of a lifetime and I still miss him dreadfully. He was pts quietly at 24, due to increasing problems with arthritis which could no longer be successfully managed without seriously compromising his quality of life.
I am sure your dedication and its results will reward you with your lovely chap.

Aw, how nice! :)
Chloe likes to show her appreciation, these days too. It's lovely when they suddenly realise that you're friend rather than foe.

I think my favourite part of that video is the grooming bit. He goes from trying to eat you, to trying to groom you back!

That's a lovely video. He has transformed into a fit, handsome pony. When you describe him as being the saddest looking pony when you first saw him, struck a cord with me.

Horses are so expressive and the most sensitive ones are often the most problematic, but when someone like you sticks with them and eventually get the trust and confidence back into them, they are the special one's who give so much back.

Thank you for sharing, reading that was a nice start to a dark windy morning.:)

I did shed a tear watching your vid! Lovely work, you seem to be a very calm, patient compassionate person you are obviously a great match and you've earned that pony's trust thank god he found you! X

Well done you its so much more rewarding when thier little horrors to start you can feel so proud when you turn them into a nice horse.
I was told the same about my 2yr old filly she was lethal and i was begged to get rid of it before she killed me but i never sore any nastyness in her jsut wild and scared took a good year to make any real headway with her and she will always be an unpredictable little madam with serious mood swings but on a good day shes cuddly sweet follows you round like a pet lamb and has even had kids doing lead rein lessons on her. and this is the rodeo bronching wild eyed crazy beast that id never ride in a million years! have faith in what you can do and what you see in your animal and dont believe the doubters who don't have the aptience or the heart to put the effort into a seserving animal like this hes an adorable little pony and stick with him good luck x

You cant be doing that to me! Just watched your vid and Im now in floods...you are ruining my hard as nails image!! What a very special bond you 2 must have.
I love it when mine come and ask for a love...I always feel like it is a very special moment when my TB puts his head under my arm for a cuddle, dosent happen that often as he isnt particularly affectionate in that way but he always seems to know when Ive had a bad day and need a cuddle.

Well done. What a lovely story and look at the repayment you've had :)
I share my friend's cob and he had also had lots of owners in his short life before she bought him. I rode him last week for the first time in months, and got big horsey hugs from him both before and after our ride. Its a very special moment when you realise that you have earned their trust and love.Makes it all worthwhile :)

What a lovely tribute. Well done to both you and Herbie. How proud you must be to know that your gut instinct was right. Your patience and kindness has truly paid off.

:)That is a beautiful and very touching video,it made me shed a few tears.Well done to you for transforming Herbie's life he is a lucky Pony to have found you.I wish the two of you many happy years together and you should be very proud:)

Thankyou everyone for the lovely comments. :)

sussexbythesea Awwwww he missed his mummy. :)

Burmilla Sorry for your loss. He was lucky you came along and finaly gave him the life he deserved he will be forever thankful to you for that. x

Fransurrey He was trying to lick me in that video. I was upset about Lucy and crying. He was so sweet that day. :)

horserider Herbs is definatly expresive. He likes you to know egsactly how he feels. Seriously though when we went to see him it was almost asif his spirt had gone. I looked into his eyes and there was nothing there. If he had fitted in the boot I would have taken him home there and then.

Hawks27 well done with your filly. Sounds like she landed on her feet with you :D

redriverrock Sorry for ruining your image. :o Your boy sounds like Herbs. Loves you deep down just can't show it or he'll ruin his tough guy image ;) :p
