Eeek, so having just spoken to my friend (I bought my horse of her a couple years back) I have agree'd to take on a little pony she rescued. He's a little bit smaller than my usual 15.1hh but i am a lighter weight rider so he should cope! He's a dunn 13hh, heavy(ish) weight moorland gelding, I think he's 5/6 years old and fairly sharp/green. So I have him to hack out, jump (very small stuff obviously), school and then when he's ready and safe enough, hand down to a couple of young, small riders I know very well to see what he does!

Also, my question- How sellable are sharp 13hh ponies, he's not dangerous just young and quick of the mark.. would suit pony club prince phillip or little jumping home apparently. Also what sort of price bracket would he be in, he's extremely safe in traffic (hacked on an A road), good to handle, farrier and all the usual stuff these ponies get done to them! Any questions or comments welcomed:)

Ps) he's arriving in 2 hours:)

He's GORGEOUS!!! I'm really taken with him, he's not everyone's cup of tea and the two/three photo's i have of him are rubbish but wowee i love him!

Talking to my friend, he's sounds a very green youngster (he's 5), he's quite bolshy at the minute but that will come. really looking forward to getting on and working with him now, he really reminds me of my 2nd pony i had! :p

He is sort of nameless at the minute, he gets called Dobby occasionally as his passport name is Dobin.. so any idea's let me know!

Good luck, I sold a sharp sec C for £700 :( Problem is at that height people are looking for "first ponies" which my mare wasn't by any stretch of the imagination!

WOW! I love him too, that vid is stunning and he's got a very horse-like face...as opposed to a pony, if you know what I mean?!
I love ponies and luckily I'm short and little enough to still fit most of them :)
When my mare is broken and brought on, i'll be on the look out for something just like him, so I'd say they're fairly sellable, you've just got a find a very experienced child or small adult.

Yeah i know exactly what you mean! He moves really nicely, and I think he could be a really nice little pony, its just getting him used to stuff and a little more safer for a child to hop on board! Well once he's schooling well and jumping he'll be advertised and hopefully will sell pretty quick. He really deserves a nice family home or a small adult :D

LOVE the name Charlie, think it really suits :) first ride tomorrow.. wish me luck!

I took on similar pony ealier this year - a 12hh exmoor type.

After only 3 months to my suprise I sold him to an acquaintance - a 50 year old small lady, who loved the fact that he was so safe, etc and for the first time in the whole of her life she is riding out, showing and even doing small competitive jumping competitions.

My point is that if he is chunky enough don't discount trying to make him into a completely reliable adult ride - there are a lot of older riders returning to riding who want something chunky but they feel safe on.

For that you need to desensitise him to everything and focus on the dressage and jumping small jumps really well, but there are good 'forever' homes out there if you can achieve that!!

He's far too nice and has too much attitude to be called Dobby!

He needs something less cute and more fitting with how he sees himself (it looks like he thinks that he's the bee's knees in that video! ). I would go for Fritz, or something like that.

Thanks neigh31 :-) can't say I upload many good video's but I might add a few of this boy:).. Keep people updated on his progression!

Canteron- yes totally agree he could make a small adult a fantastic pony. Thank you for the idea's on desensitising and small jumps:) - getting on him tomorrow and will access the situation then but hoping he'll be good:-)
