Went out yesterday on a super safe hack and it really helped my confidence.

One of the girls at the yard got on Ty today and schooled him - I then got on and did a couple of circuits of the school. he started to try and get out the gate and back to his friends and instead of feeling scared I corrected him firmly and he walked on!

Been advised to take him right back to basics, change his bit to a loose ring eggbutt and bascially school him 5 times a week and only take him out 2 twice a week - that way we can hopefully get the manners back into him. To start with (probably first week or so) I'm just going to be schooling him in walk and get him listening to me again - on the ground and in the saddle.

Wish me luck! x

I really hope so.....I felt like crying when I was on him! It was weird I just wasn't scared of him.

He was so soppy with me in the stable and everyone just kept saying how can you give up on him, you can do this and you have the support of so many experienced people!

Hopefully 07 will bring me a little luck! x

That is excellent - isn't it so nice when you can enjoy riding your horse and are able to deal with their quirks and cheekiness lol??

Good luck! xxx

Sounds like a good idea to improve manners and go back to basics. I'd keep having those safe hacks too to boost your confidence in between riding own horse but seems like you're heading in right direction. Much better taking it slow than giving up entirely and selling him on, at least for now, and you can assess the situation again in a few weeks.

Well done hunny! So glad you are sticking it out. With a little education and some firm handling you should have a nice horse on your hands. The back to basics is a very good thing to do, I did it with Sov basically just pretended that he was newly backed and started from scratch. You might have a little hiccup here and there but as long as you are getting plenty of help you will be fine.

And remember the nights are getting lighter, it will soon be nice weather again!

I have to get back on D in 5 weeks (Doctor has forbidden me riding til it's been 3 months since I broke ankle) and I'm a little bit nervous because I wanted to get back on right away and couldn't, and now it's been ages

I think if someone else rides him first or I ride another neddie it will be better, but I know exactly how you feel!

Still, you've set me a good example so I will have to follow suit

Hello stimpy here on MB id!

If you can go out on something reliable and safe first I'd recommend it definately - the horse I rode out on yesterday really helped me get on Ty today. Probably helped that I was having a bad day so felt a bit kamakazi so didn't really care!

I'd lunge first (learnt my lesson the hard way!) then if you can get someone else on first it will make you think 'hell if they can do it so can i'!

Good luck hun and let us know how you get on

xxxx

Well I went out on him today and he was a good boy - up the bridleway he started to throw his weight around so I just relaxed and told him off and he started to chill out.

Fingers crossed 07 brings us a bit more luck.....
