Feeling a little sore and sorry for myself since being bucked off yesterday after my horse, who's apparently been feeling a little too well lately got "scared" and threw a major buck (with a fart 🤣) which had me flying Air Equine out the side window and landing right on my ass.

Tell me your best and funny "hastely dismounted" stories to cheer me upp while I wallow in self pity and beat myself up for having shit balance 😁

Years ago my daughter had a great little 13.2 mare.
She was brilliant for everything but a bit mad at jumping, used to tank into jumps head like a giraffe flat out.
One day we were sat watching her and her friends from the yard jumping in the field and I said hop off I’ll make her trot over a few and just calm her down a bit.
Got on, flat out over the jump, jumped huge, stopped dead on landing to have a head down coughy snorty fit at something and guess who sailed over her head 🤦‍♀️
The kids thought it was hilarious

Last spring I got chucked off in such a hilarious way I dug out the security footage from the farm near by 😂. I was riding Bizzy, and him being unpredictable, but mostly lazy, I decided to take him hunting. Wasn't the most brilliant idea of mine 😔😅, so let's skip to the good bit, had set off about 15 minutes ago and all was going well... Untill our first jump came up, we went very steady in to it, then all h*ll broke loose, we fly bucked then I was left clinging onto the martingale whilst Bizzy f*ckd off with me. Bizzy being very, well... Unpredictable, stopped dead in his tracks next to a large muddy ditch and parked me in it, I belly flopped in there and the mud went in my mouth, ears, nostrils, eyes and down my top and in my boots. That was a fun day 😁 😂

Not technically a fall off but….. may 2021… new broadband being installed at the yard…. Guys up the poles… all ok.. I asked him to stay up there till I got on.. that was fine, he said yeah… Q the moment just as I was mounting… his footing slipped, he swung from the top of the pole. BB got a massive fright. Went up.. I tried to save myself and jumped off , my fingers caught round the reins and I broke my finger.. the middle one as well…. Its still like a bloody richmond sausage… it actually crushed my bones inside completely, it will never heal. 961BFBBF-8D08-45C5-84B0-6DC02EB63BE7.jpeg643E07ED-CF6C-43ED-8E3A-76EC858F4A48.jpegBEAE7926-89B9-4232-9A23-D90EBF6145ED.jpegE69F810A-6F72-419A-ABA1-010F9F21607F.jpegB09734E1-2298-4445-8650-5FEA22E8CC24.jpeg

Ok, my best falling off story is from when I was a teenager, working at a dealing yard, and I worked incredibly hard, no complaints, I absolutely loved it. One day had been especially busy and I was riding my last horse of the day, it had gone well and I was just walking it off on a long rein.....the next thing I knew I was flat on the floor with the poor perplexed horse standing still looking down on me. I had simply fallen asleep! Fallen asleep so completely that I fell off, and only woke up when I hit the ground, obviously this meant I was utterly relaxed when I fell and didnt even have a bruise, just a very confused horse.

The most stupid fall I have ever had was the first time I took my ex racer cross country schooling, we were warming up and there was a particularly spooky trakehner jump that she kept shying away from, I had no intentions of jumping it but it was getting a bit awkward trying to ride around it. Decided to do the sensible thing and walk around it and show her the jump so she’d stop spooking. We were stood facing it quite happily for a few moments, me just chilling with loose reins, when all of a sudden she decided to leap over it from a standstill. It was about 2’9 so not small, and I was promptly launched into the air and onto the floor. Took me a few moments to realise what happened and my mare just stopped and stood next to me looking quite pleased with herself. My dad then emerged from round a corner to lecture me on how I shouldn’t jump on my own and didn’t believe me when I said I wasn’t intending on jumping it. The rest of the session was fab and she flew everything, but I did feel very stupid..

Oh I’ve got a few…

Doing a pairs class on a borrowed RS cob. The horse in front was going too slow for his liking & he showed his displeasure at this by bronking on the landing of every fence whilst I screamed at my partner to go a bit faster (he was on a shire x whose favourite pace was halt so that wasn’t really going to happen!). I think I got about 3/4 of the way around before he finally got rid of me & proceeded to jump the rest of the fences without me. Apparently we were still disqualified 😂

Then there was a different borrowed RS cob who I was doing a rather tight jump off indoors on. He turned a LOT tighter than I was expecting, flung me out the side door & landed me right in front of his feet! (Luckily he did stop & didn’t trample me!)

Oh & then we have the time me & the orange one we’re practicing bending poles at canter & had a disagreement about which way to turn after the last pole. He “won” by ducking his way at the last second & throwing me into the arena fence!

I got rocket-launchered off a quiet and generally ploddy NF pony on Sunday. The path was flooded and we were wading through… I guess something touched her leg 😂

Got fully submerged up to my neck, including 2 iPhones, but have never stood up so quickly in my life. The reins snapped and I had to tie a knot in the rubber, mount up and ride back sopping wet. Including through another flooded stretch (I held the mane that time!).

Hope you are feeling OK after your tumble!

Most recent is bringing pony to our first ever dressage comp and her being an absolute saint right up until she saw her own shadow as we went into the warmup. Huge buck, I hit the deck, she stands on my hipbone then just stands quietly 6 feet away and waits for me to get up again. Came home with a frilly and a very interesting bruise.

My favourite fall was the first time I took my childhood pony out hunting. Usually I’d have my horsey mum helping out, but this time I had my rugby player dad. I explained what a leg up was, but he clearly decided it was similar to a line out because he launched me up in the air and straight over the top of the pony without ever making contact!

Hehe, maybe it was something in the air on Sunday 😅 I'm okay, still a bit bruised up since it was a loooong fall (horse is roughly 17 hh and she fly bucked me off) but at least I no longer believe my coccyx to be broken like I did yesterday 🙈

Will pop a Acavallo gel out seat saver next time I ride her for extra safety and a neck strap. Apparently all the horses in the yard are feeling a bit frisky at the moment, but I still decided to err on the cautious side and have removed all feed except hay, water and a salt lick for a week or two in case I accidentally have overfed and underworked her lately.

I have bucked off more times than I can remember, not many funny ones though.

However I borrowed a stocky grey cob job for a sponsored ride a long time ago. He was in hindsight not fit enough for a sponsored ride so the pace was fairly slow. However at one time on that ride he tanked off in trot and set his neck and proceeded to trot under a chunky branch off track, just about skimming the saddle and promptly swiped me off his back. I swear he knew what he was doing. There was no way I could alter his pace or direction, little .... 😂

It was my husband’s birthday and I had guiltily abandoned him to go eventing( it was a championship final). Anyway, he decided to take his horse out hacking. The horse spooked at a pheasant flying up and he came out the side door. Unfortunately the horse had only been with us a few months and my husband spent the rest of the morning trudging around the 2,000 acres of fields behind our house trying to catch it! A memorable bithday
