Got called gypo trash today!!

I can't believe some people! Shocked.
I would be speechless in your position.

Few weeks ago we drove through the village and someone let their dog out which chased us up the hill tryin to bite the back wheel. Pony spooked but was fine but the dog owner just watched and laughed!!
Then we had 1 BMW drive straight at us at about 40mph and then swerve over and then swear at us - I'm sure he called us a dirty pikie.
I've not taken him out since.

LOL, how ridiculous are some people - I would have put on my poshest voice and given him a thoroughly good dressing down. Something like - my man, who do you think you are calling ME a ***** - I suggest you move out of the way because your chavvyness is putting my horse off his dinner!

I like some of the replies here, but he is obviously an unhappy man and probably has very few friends if he is that bigoted and his manners are pretty uneducated (ie there is only one of you who is trash and its not you or your horse!).

I think the best revenge is just to wave a cheerful 'hello' as you go past him and ignore his stupidity.

Get a Warmblood or a Thoroughbred, then everyone will think you're loaded instead!! :D

LOL, TRUE!! I get called "rich b***h" because I'm on my TB side saddle. Little do they know that I graft two jobs. Ironically, it's the gypsies that don't call me names!

Whatever the beliefs of that horrid man, there was no need for him to air them to you whether you had been a gypsy or not! I would report him to the police.

Unfortunately this happens a lot. My best friend's family have been training harness racing horses for generations (harness racing in Wales is predominantly farmers and countryside people), and one day she was in her local Tesco when the girl working at the checkout turned around to her colleague and said 'look, I've got a dirty gypsy here'.

Worse than that, she was bullied so badly in school for her involvement with horses and carts that she left when she was 14 with no qualifications and severe self esteem issues. Purely from the ignorance of people who thought 'horse + cart = gypsy'. Aside from the fact that that's a wrong assumption, what would have been wrong if she'd been a gypsy anyway?!

I find that an icy "I beg your pardon" in your best Queens English is the best way to deal with people like that. It says so much more than ranting or loosing your temper and makes them feel like the silly little bigots that they are.

I would turn the other cheek this time but if he does it again it would indicate that it wasnt a one off slip and would report him.

Even tho I lived close to a traveller site that met and exceeded all the stereotypes for antisocial behaviour and crime and animal cruelty, which could have made me the biggest bigot going, I wouldnt do so - I still judge everyone by their actions alone and would not dream of using such terms of abuse.

So it makes me especially angry to hear of people doing this.

Def report it if it happens again.

PS I too am surprised they couldnt tell you were not a traveller - ours would always be hammering down the road in sulkies at 100 mph too!

I think this man was either quite brave or really stupid. If he'd have done that where I live to the trotting lads round here he wouldn't have picked himself off the floor for forever.

I'm actually as shocked at the number of racist comments made on this thread! Especially where they are in the same post as people decrying the man OP describes as racist.

It used to be 'sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me'

Now its, he called me a name WAAAAHHHHH, its racist, he must SUFFER. And I want compensation. WAAAAAAAAAAHHHH WAAAAAAAAHHHHH. Call the POLICE, POLICE, quick the POLICE!!!! Never mind all that other crime, he called me a nasty name. WAAAAAAAAAHHHH.

I am sure the OP will survive. Sure, the bloke sounds like a twit, but the Police, seriously. Surprised you haven't all gone round there with pitchforks and flaming torches.

Likewise. I have quite short hair and the amount of times I've been called an ugly lesbian is off the scale. Should I have complained to the police as well? Every time?? And no, I'm not gay.

How bl**dy rude!

I have been told that my horse is "wasted" and should be pulling a cart before now - some numpty asked "is it a mare?" I said no. "Oh is it a gelding then?" ummmmm??!!!!!

Last week our local farmer called from his car "gonna be a long walk he should be pulling my milk float" and then 35 minutes later I saw him again at a completely different place and he commented "blimey you were miles ago half hour back, he can go then?" and I smirked and agreed rather smigly.

My slow looking cob can be a speed demon and I am so pleased the farmer wont make anymore snidey remarks now....after all I got to the point we met up at quicker on my horse galloping across the fields than he did in his car!!

1 - 0 me thinks :)

Ooh, I'd have been doing my best Lady Farquhar-Forbes impression and telling him "Get out of my way, you obnoxious little oik!" :D

That's good

or

'I say my good fellow, would you ask your man to desist, I am late for cocktails at the manor'.

Seriously though, he has no right to speak to anyone like that. I would most definitely report him.

To a point you are right, but the fact his son came and held the horses head to enable said cretin to spout abuse takes it to another level in my opinion.

Not sure anyone said the fellow should suffer or pay compensation. Just reminding that it is not acceptable to abuse honest people going about their business.

Oh my gosh that's terrible!

My dad pokes fun at my gypsy con Dolly calling her a "***** pony" but that's cus I actually got/rescued her from gypsies. There's a difference poking fun and being frankly threatening and abusive.
Angry for you! Report them!

You could be really evil and next time there are travellers nearby give them his address as wanting a new driveway!!! That will show him what the real ones are like :)
