I see someone else has recommended arnica - it really is brilliant stuff for bruises. You can get tablets or cream. I keep some in my tack box just incase. Have been kicked in the past, applied the cream and forgotten all about it. Hope it does the same for you,
Thanks...my left eye's swollen in a bit and just generally a bit swollen all over...but not as bad as I was expecting! Just sorted the horses being veeeery careful what distance my head's been to things lol xx
Oooowwwwwcchhhh! Sending love and sympathy; I got kicked in the stomach a few months ago, but it was nothing compared with what's happened to you.
Um, be prepared for the fact that tomorrow you will look (and probably feel) a helluva lot worse, as during the next few days the bruising will look horrible (sorry, not exactly cheering you up here). So get going on the Arnica as soon as you can coz its wonderful stuff; there's also a cream which you can buy in the chemist called Hirudoid, but I don't know if its OK to use on your face - you'd be best to ask the doc.
Also you need to drink plenty coz when you're injured like this the system can easily get dehydrated and it will help to flush some of the toxins out.
Take care, and look after yourself.
Remember: sticky buns are DEFFO OK to have right now!
this happened to me! i had braces as the time and had to get stiches all along the inside of my mouth (cried the whole way through this process, im also terrified of needles!) and had a buised swollen face for weeks. was so lucky the horse didnt have back shoes! i understand your shock when you looked in the mirror its horrid! hope youre better soon! x
My friend at work got kicked in the face earlier in the year. The horse she was riding whipped round on the gallops and she fell off but tried to keep hold of him, he got scared so kicked out at her and caught her straight in the face. She got taken off in an air ambulance and had snapped her jaw straight in half and fractured her eye socket, she had to have metal plates put in her jaw to fix it back together, one side was hanging so she looked like she had had her teeth knocked out.
Thankyou I'm all set on paracetamol and anti-bitiocs atm [offending hoof was considerably dirty...took some time to get it all cleansed out properly!]. The steri-strips are meant to come off in 5 days and then see what it looks like.
Gives me a reason to lunge my neddy for a bit anyway! Did some random join-up with him tonight which made me feel better! I've hardly seen him these past few weeks so was nice spending some time with him again.
edited - Ouch. It's stories like them which make me not complain...I was lucky!!!!
this happened to me when i was 16. i ended up with a permamnent scar on my cheek, 2 front teeth broken clean at the roots and had to have dental implants eventually and a lump of scar tissue in my lip which i still have today. (now 34). it is not nice,.
