Got me thinking - Top Riders: do we know who is who on here?

IMO this forum often only places its faith in top competitors. Quite often it's not the best doers who are the best teachers. In most other sports the best coaches are ones who were fairly average themselves but can spot things that a top sportsman maybe couldn't. If you go to a Mary Wanless clinic (do, they're really good) she explains that the issue with many top riders is their natural talent - they don't know what they're doing that makes them so good. The best horsewoman I know has never done affiliated competition, or much competing at all, but she's the first person I turn to if I'm having a problem or I need some advice.

And people really forget that you should always take advice with a pinch of salt with regard to horses. What works for one horse may not work for another so when someone gives advice that may seem completely out, don't shoot them down because they may not be so wrong.

I don't subscribe to the 'celeb culture' and I don't give a tinkers cuss who you are or how much money you have, I am much more interested in genuine knowledge and experience and it does not take too long to figure out who has that and who's posts are worth reading.

Too many people looking for a fight here these days, but still the occasional gem and a few folk who's posts I always read....although sadly thinned by bans and those who choose to not visit any longer.

She did. She does many things which people tend not to comment on I was a bit shocked by the the black and decker sawing at her horses mouth in the speed class

For sure.. it's the only way to ride a horse these days... evil things.

i will rewind as i dont believe you (no offence) as for the sawing at horses mouths - so many people do it - novices and more experienced

Seems you get banned for everything these days....

I have infractions for when I was being a tad sarcastic.....and told I was gouding people!

TSK!

no it bloody doesnt! really annoys the hell out of me.
i have rewound and i cant see anything what you are talikng about - where?

It annoys me aswell, actually told someone off for it theother day but what would a teenager know?

It was yesterday as she was mounting she thumped him in the face.

If you SJ at a certain level (and event and do dressage) coming across the likes of the Whittakers et al ain't such a big deal and you do witness some behaviour that many of us would deem unacceptable.

By the way, who is Peter Andrew? ;)

Oh but it's fine though. They're top level. it doesn't count.

Absolutely!

Horses are their livliehood not their pets, it's a business but Ms W should be a little savvy and not upset her sponsors with brattish behaviour (sorry I've seen it). Oh, but as you say, she's Top Level, so she can do no wrong.

I don't think it matters WHO people really are on here as long as they are interesting and pleasant.

Yep, I agree

When I need an opinion or to ask an indepth question I PM a couple of people that, I feel, are worth listening to.

I saw an argument unfold on here a couple of months ago, a poster gave their opinion and was shot down for what she had said - by a lot of the regulars. I PM'd the woman because I wanted to know a bit more about what she meant and after finding out who she was, I know members wouldn't have popped off at her.

Bandwagon and 'jumping on the' spring to mind sometimes

I can't say I really agree with criticism for the sake of it. If someone is asking for it then that is different. I think its easy to say things on a forum but I don't think people would dare come out with some of the things they say on here in real life (or I would hope not)!

As for top riders I think 90% of them are bloody brilliant and do wonders for the sport, however that 10% need to appreciate that they are role models and really should behave better in the public eye. I am fortunate to know a couple of quite well known riders, and they are lovely people!

I'll be honest though some of the things that happen behind closed doors are often better left behind closed doors...

Well, MrsM, you know exactly who I am, and I hope you will keep that knowledge to yourself :D:D:D

But I live near you it appears, so I may have to find you and stalk you. However I'm easy to spot, if the post in CR is to be believed: green and Kermit-like.:D
