Took baby horse out for a hack and hes pretty good in traffic now after his scare with a European forager harvester driver last yr, anyway today a very noisy hairdryer type motorbike was behind us so we pulled into a gateway and let him past, young lad was very thoughtful and tried not to make it too noisy, anyway within seconds a second one appeared very noisy and screachy, the baby just said this is enough and had a fidget, and got a bit silly, so lad switched off his bike and I rode horse back past him, we exchanged thankyous , the horse was a bit uptight now, which is really unusal for him as of late.

I round the corner and see a massive articulated lorry coming with about 3 foot gap eitherside, up ahead is very wide grass verge so I trot on and wait and hes coming fast, so I signal for him to slow down, he doesn't and carries on fast, so I signal again, by the time he nears us the horse has had enough and is freaking on the verge, can't get him past, spinning and generally being daft, lorry tried to push through and I said wait! ( bit panicky) he leaps out of his cab and screams we shouldn't be on the road with a skittish horse, I said he's not usually, he's a baby and something upset him, he rants away, I said you should know better being an animal feeds merchant, he said he didn't have time for this sort of rubbish... baby horse decided this shouting wasn't neccessarily and trotted on past driver and lorry!

Big grrrrrr to horse and driver !

Grrr indeed, did you get the name of the company he was driving for? If you did I would ring them and complain about their driver. Its just not on to behave like that, he wouldnt get out and shout at a Granny who was out for a slow Sunday drive (or would he!)

these lorry drivers can be a pain in the bum i have a horse i have just backed she is 8 so not a youngster but still learning we have a local post office van in our village he drives like a loony i am going to report him but he drives so fast i never get his reg,my mare is excellent on the road the only things she doesnt like are people with shopping bags dont know why oh and today an old lady got out of her car with big sunglasses on and she lept across the road for some reason:confused:

Shocking! But rest assured that with that behaviour it's evidence he's having a pretty bad time/life.
Have you got the POLITE range? I used mine for the first time today and the respect was very different:)

He was broken year before last and was fine in heavy traffic, then I very stupidly let a forage harvester squeeze past and i nearly went backwards under it, scared us both half to death and hes been slighly dodgy with really large machinery since, but gaining his confidence, why he got wound up today over a motorbike is beyond me, but he did and I said to the driver the reason why I slowed you was for all 3 of our safety, he just got angrier, he obviously didn't like me telling him to slow down, no idea which merchant it was to be honest, I was trying to stay on, he is 15hh but spins like a pony and has a habit of blind leaping over hedges when freaked, was equally p****D off with horse for deciding man was nasty and best to trot on past it! haha

I would have gesticulated to him in an offensive manner and sworn at him in an offensive manner. Men are strange, most are rendered speechless when they hear a women scream, loudly and violently, in expletives at them.

I once lost it in Tesco because I said sorry for banging my trolley into another woman and she didn't acknowledge my sorry, i said actually I retract that!!!!! and had an almighty row with her about her manners, when I flip, I flip lol today for some reason I was resigned to the fact he was an ********!

That's pretty damn cr*p :(

Friend and I were out on a hack yesterday. Had loads of wagons go past us and they were all very nice, polite and gave us wide berths. I had the Polite tabbard on (and riding a big chestnut horse, with a high-viz sheet on her), so that might have accounted for the ones coming from behind, but even those from the front were thoughtful as well :D :D

I hope you do ring the merchant and 'have a word'. The stooopid man could have ended up taking far longer with his idiocy

shame you didn't get the name or part of the reg of the lorry, i nearly got wiped out by a Wolseley lorry last year, couldn't get his reg because he was going too fast but still wrote the HO a scathing letter and got a lovely apology and assurance that they would do their best to find the driver from the details i did have and talk to him:)

yeah will recognise it next time and take notes . I did rather neurotically force him to slow down, so think thats what got his goat, but still no excuse, I tend to take control of the traffic when I am riding and usually make signs to say hes a baby etc and ppl are generally very lovely around us, very silly driving aggressively in a big vehicle like that, no idea why I was so chilled, think it wound him up even more lol.

He definately would have had a little winkle with his massive belly, poor man!

I've just ordered a headcam from unicornleather.co.uk for exactly this sort of thing, if this sort of thing happens to me whilst I have it on, I'd not only show the police but turn up at his companies head office and present them with a copy!
I think you showed extreme restraint and well done for handling it so well.

I didn't feel at all intimidated by him getting out to be honest, he really was an angry fellow and had he intimidated me, don't you worry he would have had extreme abuse, I guess I wasn't over furious because he did stop and did as he was told, he was just very angry that I told him what to do, probably little man syndrome, just like my terriers!

Yes i think i am well known in our village now for shouting at people i think they think OMG here comes that mad woman on the big black horse who shouts at everyone to slow down i ordered a hi viz from work with caution young horse doesnt make in a difference may get one saying f.....g slow down that may get their attention but i am going to get one of the "POLITE"hi viz as i think they are great

LOL, it makes you feel like saying that doesn't it, why are people so stupid when it comes to passing horse on the roads?

I accidentally pushed my trolley into a woman in front of me - my trolley was full and she stopped dead  she was wearing flip flops and I caught her ankle. She hopped over to customer services crying and glaring at me and asking for a chair to sit down. I may have muttered FGS under my breath and disappeared before she asked for an ambulance......

#it amazes me that they can't see if they slowed down for a few seconds it would get them on thier way far faster than you in front of them with a spinning horse blocking the road.

In fairness around us most of the drivers of both the tractors and the lorries are quite good (mainly because they work for our YO's husband and she shouts at them) but there are the odd one or two.
Last time i ended up holding up traffic because Hovis was being a knob one yelled out of the window was i going to get out of his way any time soon.
To which i answered of course not I wanted him to see my full spanish riding school demonstration and so he could sit that whilst I worked on our canter piroettes (sp) (this whilst Hovis was twirling in the road like Darcey Bussell). Needless to say next time i saw him he pulled in, we walked calmly past and he was on his way in seconds!

I have just had a van come flying past me, I put my hand up to signal to slow down and he just drove past sticking his two fingers at me mouthing F U. !!!! W.nker

To make the thread more serious again--because the incident could have been worse and the OP should report it both to the company and Police

I was out on Cuffey one day (high viz hat cover and waistcoat) in a fairly narrow lane, no room for 2 vehicles to pass but places to pull in
I heard a tractor coming from behind travelling quickly, stayed out in the lane until I was sure he had seen me then pulled into a gateway.
The driver (agricultural contractor) had a slurry spreader behind and did not take his foot off the accelerator.
Cuffey ''thought about'' jumping the gate from a standstill, glad he didnt but it was a frightening few seconds.

I knew where this driver was working, got home, reported him to the Police, clear breach of Highway Code rules, they phoned me back later to say the driver would no longer be using that ''short cut'' unless he was actually working down that lane.

A result, he did slow down on seeing me after that.

The annoying thing his employers were actually horse owners!!
