If you have read my post about my new horse you will know I have to sell Blue. He is a rising 5yo grey gelding, 1/4 shire x tb. He is good to shoe, clip, box and in traffic but is not forward going. He has a hell of a natural jump but needs to think for himself. He has done 2 fun rides, 1 x indoor show and hunted once! He was only backed last August so is doing very well. He is 15.2hh and still growing. Would you say £2,250 incl tack and rugs is reasonable?

I think you should ask more if you are including tack and rugs. Depends if hes got any major issues. To buy tack and rugs etc is going to be about £1000 so that means you are only asking about £1000 as someone is going to knock you down on your price. If he is sensible and sane then I think £3250-3500 is more realistic. Remember he is also a nice teenagers/ ladies size. If "he" was a "she" Id come and see him after the way my mare behaved today!!!

I think thats a good price. Does he have particular breeding that could up the value. My friend was looking for something like him. Where are you based if your neaby i could pass on your number to her?

Hi, he is not papered but is out of a 15.2hh tb mare from a 17hh shire stallion (ouch). He has no major issues its just that he is too laid back. He is a good sensible type, he spooks at the odd thing but doesn't turn and run, he just looks intently but settles quickly. Is ridden out by 14yo girl at moment. When hunted he was very forward going so it is there, he is just green although shows good promise in the school. His jump is clean and natural, he has jumped x country the odd jump on fun rides and doesn't refuse. I am based in N. Devon.

If you decide to sell i can pass on your number to my friend who is looking for something to Rc on and hack. PM me if your keen shes in exeter too so close by.

You may want to offer £2500 with tack and £2250 without. Shame hes not papered as you could have added another £250-£300 if the parents were re-searchable/had competed to some degree.

Thanks everyone for your input. I suppose I don't want to be greedy. I think that he is a hell of a good looker and moves cleanly. He is honest and vice less and a good home would make me feel better about letting him go. He was unhandled up to 7 mths ago so I know there is a lot more to come from him. he is bold over jumps but is lazy hacking out. He enjoys x country, jumping (as long as it is at a canter) and adores hunting as much as one experience can tell. He needs someone with more patience than me. Being my only rideable horse to date I feel he needs to chill a bit.

I would ask more, probably 3-3.5k as it is with tack. And it seems a lot of horses that age are a little laid back when it comes to work, I know mine is, is likely to sort out when fully grown! Lovely horsey by the way

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate your input. I need to find my horseys good homes just to settle my conscience. Why is it so hard?
We all think that no one will look after them the way we do but in truth I am sure most go to loving homes. I have been entirely honest with my descriptions of my boys and hope that I can re-home them quickly. (incidentally, was offered £2,000 cash for blue by dealer but told him where to go).

Makes me laugh, if he was a WB then people would think nothing of seeing a 5k price tag on him. My shire cross jumped L classes in Spain (skipped over 1.30m). I think Blue is going to be a serious little horse, and because of that (hell, everyone else prices for *potential* these days as much as I hate it) I would price him at £4k with tack and equipment and £3500 without. After all he has hunted, done fun rides, SJs and is schooled AND is very sane!

ETS: If he was a couple of inches bigger then I would snap him up for myself!

Wish my Mum would let me buy another, he is just my type! Yum yum! I would also say about £3500 with tack as he is only young but sounds very sensible. A bit like my horse but younger and with more potential... and I paid £3000 for mine and think she was a very good price! I agree with Weezy, these days everyone prices for potential and Blue looks to me like he has it!

Looking at ones I've seen recently (and I have been obsessed with looking at all the websites!) I agree with Weezy, you ought to be asking £4000 with tack. People want more money for less than your horse has done.

I have to say for an honest solid laidback little horse with no hangups, and looks well put together with the whole future in front of him I would be thinking in the 4K mark.
Careful if you list him too cheaply you might not find the right sort of home for him.

PS.......if I had the room I would snap him up I think hes lovely!!

I"d agree on the £4k mark - if you advertise him more cheaply, the intelligent people will think there's something wrong with him and you'll get all the idiots who want a cheap horse. He looks stunning - get some good pics and put him in the all-rounders section of HorseQuest
