I think they're basically the same! The idea being in a GP you can jump/hack/flatwork, and an event you can xc/sj/dressage. In my experience they are a bit "jack of all trades master of none" but if you can only have one saddle they're great. I have a lovely Ideal International Event which is really comfy.
