GP saddle recommendation please

Assuming 'Bud' passes his vetting next week I'm going to need a new saddle as he doesnt come with tack.

What would you suggest for someone who wants to do a bit of everything but does not have huge amounts of money to spend(no £700+ suggestions please)?

when we looked a different horse we were pointed in the direction of thorowgood. Any opinions?

DOnt rate either of the synthetic makes anymore tbh! The wintecs are the better of the two, but dont fit everything contrary to popular belief

Ideal and Barnsby are the nicest saddles for horses backs IMHO.

my friend had thorowgood and it didnt really last long the seat wore away so fast, and she hardly every rode, wintec all the way

I love my wintecs - have several variations, lol, pony saddle, wide, two normal GPs, and a dressage version - they are fantastic!

how would wintec withstand being ridden 6 days a week?

Depends on the shape of the horse's back.

TB type = wintec or thorowgood

flat cob type = thorowgood

But you should get a fitter out - unless you know how to check the saddle for soundness, check the flocking, check that the tree suits the horse's back, the width follows the horse's shoulder and the length fits the horse and rider as the best combination and also that the saddle still fits when the horse is ridden.

ive got a thorogood. Ive had it 2 years (granted not ridden in it 2 years none stop) but it still looks like new and is regularly used

Or it was until i bought a made to measure a couple or weeks ago!

I have an Exselle Access Event & it's fab! It's a lovely leather saddle & didn't cost the earth & fits my rather chunky, flat, short backed lad really well! Would definetely recommend one!

I had a Jeffries Falcon adler vsd, a lovely lovely saddle fingers crossed it can be altered to fit my new horse tomorrow as its only 5 months old.

I really don't rate the synthetics at all - and IMO and are not great for backs.

It really depends on the type of horse you are buying for as they are all slightly differently made (obviously

). The best option I think is once he is home (fingers crossed for vetting) get a saddler to come out with loads of different second hand saddles - see what suits him and then you see if you are comfortable.

I have a lovely K2 (albion) jumping saddle that is so comfy (I have dressaged in it aswell) but sadly no longer fits. From what I've heard the bates are lovely. I also rate the fieldhouse saddles (and they don't seem to break the bank new either).
