GPS trackers

Does anyone have one for their dog? If so, can you recommend the brand please? I'm not looking for all singing and dancing, just a basic one for location really. Thanks!

I have a Tractive one from Amazon it was about £50
Decent but needs charging often

I had a Tractive one. It was ok, but only worked when it could get phone reception, so not great if out in the sticks.

Thanks both, this was one I was looking at earlier. I have mobile reception where I walk my dogs, so that shouldn't be an issue.

I have a tractive too, works ok for me, it does need charging every day but I do it overnight and it hasn't been a particular problem.

We too have a Tracktive, the gps is a bit crap in the woods, unfortunately and told us Goose was ‘safe at home’ the other day when he was definitely in the woods with us!

My husband bought the tractive one but it's absolutely useless where I keep the horses because there are so many trees overhanging the bridleway leading to the fields. Given that this is the place we go mist often and you have to pay the app subscription in advance, I'd say it was a complete waste of just over £200!

My OH has just cancelled the Tracktive subscription. We walk in the woods. Mostly, we’re in the depths of the woods and it’s just not working. He’s been given a full refund, so I’d recommend the company, we had a proper go of it, I think that’s more than fair of them.

I have a tractive too.
I find I charge it once a week. The last couple of weeks it's been slow to tell us when she's hone and returning live tracking on. If she's away a walk I sometimes follow her on the app.

What I did find was when Tia was at borders for a week so away from home address/our phones with app it lasted less than 48 hours.

I have the Findster Duo as Rip is only off lead in woodlands and it doesnt rely on a phone signal. Its twice the initial price of the tractive but it doesnt have any annual charges that other trackers have. I am more than happy with it.

I also have a tractive (one on each dog). I find it gives me peace of mind. Have needed it only 3 times (across two dogs, in 6 years) ... Once was when young terrier disappeared while out with dog walker. She called me, I tracked him and he was very nearby but had got stuck. Instead of calling for help (he's normally so yappy!), he totally froze and stayed quiet and still so she hadn't been able to find me. In fact, at first she thought he must have lost his tracker as she couldn't believe there was dog in the area I sent her. She found him, pulled him out safe, the end ... One, my young puppy bolted. She would have come back, I am sure, but the tracker meant we knew which way she'd gone and met up with her and continued like nothing had happened. I would have been blindly running in all directions without in. The most scary time, however, was in New Forest when my normally bombproof dog took off after a deer and then got proper lost. For that day alone, all the years of paying for the tracker have been worth it. He was so far away and so panicked and we could see him running madly in the wrong direction but were able to split up and intercept him so in the end he was missing for only 20 minutes. He hasn't left my side since that days, but my heart still pounds thinking about it as I really think he would have been proper missing. He was just so far away from anywhere and we were on holiday so none of us knew the land.

I have a very nervous Romanian rescue dog and did originally buy her the Tracktive tracker. Whilst it worked well originally I used to see it ‘freeze’ quite often. Then the day that I did require it, it had frozen and I couldn’t find the dog (I did in the end after a very stressful 2hrs). I ended up buying a Pawfit and have used this for the past 2years. I have found it way more reliable, a better size for the dog and I find all of the features work well. I have never seen it freeze and have since bought one for my parents dog and my cat!

it is a bit annoying having to charge it every few days but it’s well worth the peace of mind I get from it.
