I took Grace for her first dressage lesson today over in Cheshire... she loaded perfectly and travelled fantastically. She did not sweat up at all and seemed to take it all in her stride.
We got there, unloaded her, tacked up and started walking her around the school. My instructor told me to work her in as I would do, and although she was a little spooky to start with she seemed to settle.
We then went into canter and all of a sudden she had a huge bucking exploision!!!
I sat to the first two (although the second one unseated me a little) but the third one was massive, and off I came out of the side door! Little bugger... she bucked off, turned around and looked at me as though it was all my fault that I was on the floor!
Apart from that we had a good lesson and have lots to work on this week. She needs to learn her own balance now and not rely on me so much, so it's all about lifting her shoulders and getting her working from behind more. She also has to learn to stay in the trot I put her into, as she tends to back off a bit once the leg is taken off.
But I was so pleased with how she dealt with everything. For the first time she has ever been somewhere she did really well... and I forgave her when she looked at me when I was sat on the floor. She looked so puzzled!!!
I'm stiff and sore tonight though
