Am sending calming vibes to BOTH of you!!!!

Thanks again to everyone...

SN, I am pleased that it is something that can be treated. In a way, I am also glad that he did find something as I was starting to really doubt myself

I just knew there was something not right, no matter how many people told me that she looked fine!

I do a feel a bit low because she has been doing so well... I sort of feel this whole year has been a bit pointless now. All my goals I set out are now impossible, but I have made my own little one for her: I still want to compete at the Area Finals in April which she worked so hard to achieve.

Glad you spotted it early, my pony wasn't diagnosed for nearly 5 months ( incompentent vets) took him to Oakham for 2nd opinion three weeks ago, and he's now on weeek 1 of one months box rest following an operation for PSD.
I was insured, but because of the the first vets, I still had to pay out £882.

but still the prognosis is very good!
BTW, at Oakham, the vet told me that PSD in hind legs doesn't heal like fronts ( don't know why) thats why he operated on mine pony's

I think because of Grace's age and the way it has been damaged he said there was no need for an operation because it would heal just as well and if not more quickly, without one. I will speak to him about this today though when I go to pick her up.

Really glad you have got a positive result, I'm sure the timne will fly by especially with Christmas coming! At least you have Hannah to ride which will keep you busy.

It is a very long way from you but Bell Equine referred a friends horse to an equine hydrotherapy pool local to me in Kent and they had fantastice results. Maybe you could give them a call and see if they know anyone local to you.

Am so pleased it is something very treatable! I was also going to suggest Hydro, I am a great believer in it. We have a very good livery yard/hydro centre near us that would take holiday livery if you wanted to send her away for a couple of weeks, I can PM you the details if you want?

Thanks honey... it was a bit depressing finding out that I was right about something being wrong, but in a way I am just pleased I persisted and tried to find out what it was.

I have just phoned the one Kate suggested, and they are getting back to me. The good thing about that place is the vet who has been treating her visits once a week too.

Thanks... if the Yorkshire Equine Clinic cannot fit her in, I will send you a quick PM if that is ok to get the details

my horse's PSD in his right hind healed fab with shockwave but only coz we caught it early. i know plenty of others with similar success stories in hindlimbs. with chronic disease then i think the op is probably the best option, but having seen that fail personally i'd probably give shockwave a try first in all but the most chronic, severe disease.

Hey, ive been following all your emails with baited breath and crosses fingers and soo glad they have managed to find what the problem is and is treatable. At least she is young enough to get over it and have plenty of competing years ahead of her
smile.gif
I may have managed to catch you up by then, considering we started the same time hehe

sending lots of healing vibes and im sure she will be 100% fine. Just reminds me though, i must book in Star for her back check, just to make sure everything is ok
smile.gif
hugs to you both xx

Yes our 17hh ID x TB had it hidden in his hock. He was boxrested for 3 months with shockwave treatment and was within days of being allowed to go out when he died of colic..

Becki, I can understand why the shock of it made you upset, but really this is very good news. It's something that can be treated with good prognosis (so often lameness problems aren't

) & at least it's the winter you're 'wasting'. Also, don't forget how good it can be to give a young horse a break - they often come back better, as if they've spent the time digesting what they've previously learnt! I'd get her onto a good joint supplement though & if it were me, I'd keep her on it long term.

Glad you got to the bottom of it.

Thanks Sal_E - she has been on Cortaflex since I got her 12 months ago

She is going on an msm supplement too though for the duration of her box rest, and this afternoon a brand new shiny Equissage arrived that I bought this morning
