Grace update - she is now at Leahurst

I am pleased you took her to the hospital - it is where horses who have been sick for longer than a couple days should be.

Best of luck.

She's in the best place, please try to get some rest tonight however hard that may be so you will be fit to visit tomorrow. fingers and everything else crossed for her xxxxxx Is she in one of the boxes opposite the reception?

Yes, she is right facing reception... still not heard anything, which means good news

one advantage to being there is when you ring them they can see your horse so give you a running commentary on what they are doing, it was where Higgs was when he was there. Who is dealing with her?

A lady called Mel is the resident on call at the moment and she was absolutely fantastic... I stayed with her through all of the tests etc. and Mel explained everything to me in full detail so I knew exactly what was going on. Then the other lady (who I think was the surgeon in charge) was called Sarah...

I just wanted to add... I am very very grateful to everyone who has posted. Sorry I cannot reply to each one individually, I am just trying to keep on top of my tears at the moment. But your thoughts and comments are very much appreciated

I just wanted you all to know that!

Higgs was under Barry Edwards and Derek Knottenbelt and Dylan ? but I have to admit everyone who dealt with him at Leahurst was very good and they don't mind the 1001 questions either! What time are you going up tomorrow or have you got to ring first?
If you need to cry let it out as its worse if you bottle it up, been there and done it

besides what are all your friends on here for, support in times of need is one of them

Thanks honey... I don't think I am going up tomorrow as she is in quarantine until they confirm she is free from salmonella. Anything with loose poo and these types of symptoms have to be checked, as one other horse at the yard had colic surgery a few weeks ago and he was also tested (completely negative).

Hopefully, will pop up and see her on monday if they are ok about it, but don't want to go up if it is not the best idea

Dr Proudman is the overall expert in colic there, so he will oversee everything when he gets in.

friends horse was there on quarantine and she had to get decked out in a white jump suit and wear wellies and go through an antiseptic foot bath to see her horse and then strip off afterwards, so it may be possible to visit tomorrow? They can be pretty flexible about visiting times as well. If she's in Derek's care then she's in pretty good hands

he's very very good and will explain everything in terms you can understand.

I have a good feeling that Grace will be OK. Sending my special healing vibes to Grace and to you. Derek K should be given a Knighthood and Grace is in the best hands. Sleep well xx

Becki......so so very sorry to hear about Grace.........have everything crossed that she is going to be fine and will be home with you soon.

Sending you lots of {{{{POSITIVE VIBES}}}} from Scotland......really really hoping all goes well.

Cxx

I really didn't want to read this tonight - was looking for a post that said she was starting to hoover up her grub again.

Fingers crossed for you and Grace. I am sure she is in the right place.

Mega hugs.

Fiona

She couldn't be in a better place, as a Wirral ex resident I know Leahurst well and their standard of care is superb.
Derek Knottenbelt is probably the most knowledgeable vet I've ever encountered so you've done your best for her.
I do hope she improves with their treatment, she's caused you some tears this last year, and perhaps this will find the cause and improve her health.
Hugs from me and I've got my fingers' firmly crossed. xx

I am trying not to think about the worse case scenarios (which is probably surgery at this point in time), but I am just so relieved she is there now and not at home with me being worried sick that I am not there all of the time with her
