I took Grace over to Cockshot to do the Prelim and Novice... I was umming and ahhing about whether to go because the weather has been so awful and it was outdoors, but it looked a bit brighter this morning so off we went

When I unloaded Grace I noticed she had quite a deep cut on the inside of her leg. There were no marks on her travel boots so she must have done it when she caught her leg being a prat in the stable because she knew we were going somewhere and just wanted to poo everywhere whereas I wanted to put her boots on

Anyway, I trotted her up and she looked sound. I decided to tack up and see how she felt under saddle (we put a plaster on my my first aid kit in the car - wish I'd had a camera, she looked ridiculous

). She felt ok when I got on her, but the warm up was quite busy and it is the first time she has been to Cockshot so she was staring at everything and put in one big spook at... wait for it... a fence post
laugh.gif

She felt quite lazy today (not normally a problem) but she has had quite a busy week with a lesson with Spencer on Thursday then one with Jo on Friday... unfortunately it was just the way they had fallen

She warmed up quite nicely for the Prelim but felt a little on the forehand. As soon as we got up to the arena (it is VERY open) she was just boggling at everything. She didn't really spook, just decided the plant pots that were the markers were Grace eating monsters and should be watched and snorted at at all time, the judge's car may jump out at her and she could see all the horses warming up below.

She did an ok test but wobbled on her centre (being too nosy) and then I had the BIGGEST sneezing fit in history half way through the test and as soon as it finished walked her to Andy and threw her at him while I ran to the toilet to get a tissue. I have no idea where it came from, but I had tears streaming down my face

She came 6th with 64.17%. Not our best result but I was pleased with her because it was all new.

Then we warmed up for the Novice... she felt lazy still, but a bit more uphill now she had done the first test. But by the end of the warm up I was beginning to wish that I had tried some spurs on her in the week just for that little bit of extra elevation and impulsion when she is beginning to tire. However, we went in and she did a lovely test. Just a few errors as she didn't really show much medium work (that is when I thought the spurs would have just given her that little bit extra) but her canter work was nice and she received a lot of 7s. She came 4th with 64.87% which then takes us to 5 BD points

It is only her second Novice and she got more than 1% better than her first attempt last week, so I am thrilled with that!

She's a very tired pony tonight and is having a well deserves day off tomorrow

Well done Grace - and you of course! We were out yesterday for the first time in ages and got a 3rd in N32 and 3rd in Elementary 41!!! I was very chuffed as it was only his second elementary! No doubt our paths will cross one day - especially now that I'll have the youngster out as well in the near future! Fab result!

Lol! I don't post much these days. Had new horse about 3 months now. He's a 16hh chestnut gelding - bred to showjump with emillion/ magic darco lines. He was very, very green when we bought him (bit too green really) but he's starting to come together now. Plan is to dressage and showjump him. Had first lesson on him today (As trainer has been off with head injury for a couple of months) and she thinks he's fab and is really excited. So can't wait to get long summer hols and start playing with him! Here's a pic taken at the beginning of May when we went toa clinic with Becky Moody - it's her riding! He looks a bit downhill in this pic but believe me, he's not!!! I think it was just the timing of the pic.

Oh, and this was taken last weekend - he's such a softy!

We were at Beaver Hall yesterday - and thankfully it was a nice day! Was really impressed with the little man (my other horse) as I haven't really ridden him much recently as OH has him mainly now! Where are you next?

I am going to Myerscough on Wednesday (made a mistake with the dates again
blush.gif
) and then after that she is having a few weeks off. I think we have one at Arkenfield at the end of the month.

He looks lovely... I do remember you mentioning something about him now
laugh.gif
How old is he?

Grace was bred to show jump too, but I've taken her to thev dark side
laugh.gif
She has Greeton du Rezidal (Milton's bro) as her grandsire and her granny is a Grade A. I just like staying on the ground
smile.gif

He's 5 - but very immature...these warmbloods I hear tend to mature later
crazy.gif
He's showjumped and had double clears at Britsh Novice and Discovery. He was the result of a meeting between a 2 year old colt (by emilion) and a 2 year old filly (by magic darco)!!! They still have both parents, even though they (regretfully) had dad gelded. Both parents are now Grade B at 8 and doing very well on the circuit I believe. I will showjump him as he loves it and is a very careful jumper, but the plan is mainly dressage once he gets his head together. I'm very excited now - he's come on loads in the last few days. You'll have to come for a ride around Somerford with us - I break up in a couple of weeks and have long hols I need to fill!!!

"Oh, and this was taken last weekend - he's such a softy!"

Not sure who's the softest are you Becki?!!

Well done Becki, Grace surely seems a real find.

SV, will reply your pm in a mo', love the new boy!

Well done Becky - your horse is really lovely!

We were actually parked next to you this morning and I realised who you were when I heard your OH call your horse Grace. Unfortunately never got chance to say hello to you as we were rushing home to do a clinic this afternoon (poor pony is exhausted!)

And now I think about it I think I saw you having your lesson on Friday! Next time I will say hello!

(oh heavens I've just read that back and it sounds like you've got a stalker! Honestly I'm normal really!)

Oooo... what did your horse look like? Say you were stood at the back of my trailer looking towards the collecting ring, were you to my right or left???

Do you stable at Croft then? I was having a lesson with Jo there on Friday and have another on on Saturday afternoon too.

Thanks hun... we seem to be having issues of getting above 4th though
laugh.gif
But I am so pleased she is getting pretty decent marks in the Novice because I doubted whether she was ready. But she is proving to be holding her own out there
smile.gif

The lesson with Spencer was really hard work on Thursday. He noticed that I was incapable of staying on a circle, so put a lunge line on us and made me stick to the circle by watching the line at ALL TIMES! I couldn't believe how hard it was, but I did notice my circle work in the tests had improved from last week! I have another lesson with him on 31st July, so I am really looking forwards to that now. He also made me realise that I am letting Grace's trot get too fast and am wasting all of the energy and impulsion she is offering by not checking her.

He definitely worked me hard, although I felt like a bit of a prat not being able to ride a circle. He said you would be amazed at how many people, even GP riders, that find the exercise he did with me quite difficult. He said it is something about not having a static point to work around, especially in the longer arenas.

Do you ue spurs on Archie?

I think using spurs was the turning point for me and my mare - I'd been putting it off as I was concerned about us becoming reliant on them as she's an m&m and we can't use them when we're showing but I've found she's far more responsive to my leg even when I'm not wearing them!

Little black pony - we were to the right of you as you look to the collecting ring. Was our first venture out into affiliated - just did the prelim on a ticket and was made up to get above 60% (and not finish last!)

The arena at Cockshot is pretty spooky - it took me all season last year to get pone to settle in it!

I know which one you mean... he was lovely!

How did you do? I agree, the arena was spooky, I think more so because they can see horses below them and then the traffic coming in and out of the ground too
smile.gif

Are you going to affiliate now? If you are getting over 60% then you are definitely ready to!

Thank you... how is your girl getting on? Are you still thinking of selling her?
