grackle noseband

OK, so how many others have now had to click on AS's profile pic to try and work out what it is hanging there?!

*puts hand in air*

I actually started looking at this thread because someone suggested a Grackle to me for my mare who is very evasive with her mouth- flash is OK but I don't really think it's working well- at least not without being done up tight enough to cut off her blood supply- and I didn't want to just go and get a grackle 'cause it's fashionable- wanted more info about it first!

When I bought my mare 5 years ago she came in a 3ring gag, bottom ring, a flash and a martingale- all of which I immediately whipped off and put her in a french link.

Since then we've tried various things to stop her tanking off, schooling, lessons, back, tack and teeth checked more often than I care to remember, various different bits- from bitless, to straight bar snaffles to pelhams with two reins... nothing helps, she's 20, Arab x, fairly set in her ways and feisty!!

This week I have gone back to the Gag (second ring!) the flash and the martingale- against all my principles because I was sure we could school her/ find another way and not have to resort to 'gadgets'- and we've had some fantastic rides- she's not perfect, but she's controllable and I don't have to haul her back teeth out to stop her.... but of course it's probably just that I'm a C*** rider- I'm sure others could hack her over open moorland in a cotton snaffle with no problem ;)
