I thought this rule only applied to imports? I registered one horse that was much older than 7 and he was registered as Grade C horse.

Then again, if they have and they jump them unaffiliated, regardless of whether or not they're Grade A/B, they'll be regarded as the scourge of society lol!

First of all horses that have been by a proper professional are not easy. they are so used to being told do this, that and take off that when a mere mortal gets on them and has an amateur moment they can't cope. That is why I would never buy a horse like you friend has as I'm just not good enough to ride it.

Secondly you friend is never going to beat the professional unaffliated riders. The ones that go in every 2'3, 2'6, 2'9 etc and win everyone of them. It just isn't going to happen. And why do you think it is fair that these people should carry on jumping in these classes? Surely they should no longer be allowed to compete in them as they always win - or is it OK for them to continue beating everyone else as their horse has never been reg BSJA?

This horse obviously isn't up to high level BSJA now for whatever reason don't you think it is nice that he has found a job to do rather than being PTS?

Just because my horse had been there and done it does'nt mean I went out and won everything, as it happens she was far from easy to ride.

She had retired from higher level BSJA due to injury, as I am sure a lot of horses who end up competing un- affiliated after decent careers BSJA have.

Do you suggest we right these horses off and stop them giving somebody a wonderful start in the sport because they have a past?

Perhaps she can compete in unaffiliated classes H/C. This way, she gets to compete, but will not take any prizes. Most unaffs will allow you to jump off H/C too, so she'll get the full benefit.

My grade b has been off for four months with lameness, so my daughter competed him in the 95cm unaff a couple of weeks ago, just becuase he hadn't been in the ring for some time, and we've gone outdoors, so thought it'd be a good idea. He's normally jumping 1.20s upwards, so was a lot smaller than he is used to, so I made sure that she competed H/C to be fair on other people. Especially as I am the judge, and wouldn't want competitors complaining about "pot hunters".

I think this is a bit unfair. I bought my boy for £2500 he is now a exgrade B showjumper. I did it all myself but he is now 19 and having a easier life. He jump trailblazer 95 and 105cms and he loves it. So what you are saying is that because he was a grade B i should retire him! You don't have to pay alot of money for a horse it is what you make of it.

Tell your friend to go ahead and enjoy her horse. That is the main thing. Sod what other people think

Now I don't agree with this at all. I think unaffliated jumping is for anyone who doesn't want to jump affliated - novice rider or otherwise. You might not want to jump BSJA for many reasons including the expense, the lack of classes, not wanting to commit to a years membership, they normally event, not brave enough, got a new horse, the list goes on and on.

People who have said it is unfair (not lillie07) how do you feel about eventers jumping in unaffliated classes - is that OK?

i would love to some time in the future go affilated but TBH its the expense, i`m not really brave and we have a lot of good unaffilated courses near us so i wonder if theres much point!!

at our unaffilated shows there are some amazing riders that could easily easily affilate but they choose not to!!

I got an old sour JA pony when I was a kid and it took me 4 years to learn to ride her round riding club shows before I could do anything else with her, I fel a touch o jealousy creeping in here, if you knew how hard it is to retrain a 'readymade' horse you would not be squarking about unfair!

no one is expecting her to win. her horse though does have a bigger advantage of courses etc as he has competed hickstead etc, and has won classes to be a grade A. i will be competing against this girl at the shows at yes its imtimidating a little to be compting against a horse that has already jumped to a high standard, but jealous? i work just as hard as anyone else does to train my horse and im proud of my own achievements in different ways. if she wins, she deserves a pat on the back, if i beat her, she needs to up her game next time!
 
What everyone has to remember is that horses are not machines, and that whatever level you compete, be it affiliated or unaffiliated, you are always going to find horses that have done more or less than your own. It really isn't relevant as there are so many factors that can and will influence a result on the day.

I have seen horses that have jumped the Hickstead Derby compete in 1.10m Opens around our way, but nobody gets stressed about it because it is an 'Open' class and the horse is obviously being jumped in it for a reason. If they were 'pothunting' they certainly wouldn't be interested in £50 for a little local class like that

completley agree with you Rambo, pat on the back if you do well, up your game next time if you dont. you can put all the work in for the horse to be in a strop that day and not get you clear, or you can jump out of your skin and do the best round...im looking forward to the new competition
 
I jumped my JA pony unaffiliated as she was my 1st pony and id never competed before, she wasnt reg. bsja and i did loads on her TB, C&R ect. when we first started out we hardly won anything as she was quite hard to ride bt once we got going i jumped her in opens

I am not expecting here to win ! i just think its an unfair advantage and i knw i wouldnt waste my time at the local shows on it its not like shes a complete novice at some local yard she has it at a top international showjumpers yard at is having lessons every day ! she has been given the horse to compete! not brought it to potter around on ! this horse does not need retrainig as what i have seen on it its foot perfect and my friend says he is easy to ride ! but as i said i would never be nasty or put her down if she wins fair play to her i defo had my far cher of winning every local show i turned up to on my old mare! GOOD LUCK to her and if she beats me then ill run and complain and spit my dummy out only joking i will know how to up my game and that wud be stick dynamite up flintus`s bum cuz no one will beat flint lol ! xx
