Hi, my horse has had granulomas in his saddle area for over a year now. Throughout the year some have gone down, but recently 2 really big ones have appeared. The vet said not to worry about them as they aren't causing any problems. My horse has had his saddles checked regularly and has regular physio sessions. He occasionally has the odd lump and bump elsewhere on his body that tend to go away over time. So things I have tried-

* Thoroughly washing the area after being ridden
* Clean saddle cloth every time
* Washing saddle cloths in non-bio sensitive washing powder
* Crest tooth paste (someone suggested it so thought it was worth a try)

Any other suggestions? I have seen on some past threads about using malaseb shampoo but you need a prescription for it. So I've bought some medicated shampoo to try.

Thanks

My gelding has these as well. His don't cause a problem either but I would rather they go! His have got smaller by washing them every time he is ridden. The medicated shampoo actually made his worse. The best success I have had is the Naff shampoo for lumps and bumps. You can also have steroid injections into them if they are causing problems.

I would try a sheepskin pad, or possibly one of the new ultra breathable ones (Husk etc) and see if that helps.

My lad gets them occasionally towards the end of winter at coat change time. Certainly then I find that a wool numnah is helpful as other materials can seem to irritate them a bit whereas the wool does not. Other than that I have also noticed that for whatever random reason he doesn't tend to get on well with the bamboo linings in the Le Mieux numnahs. So if not using wool I stick to cotton now.
