lass at our yard horse injuried leg 4-5 weeks ago, nt done anything about it thn put sudocream on top of infection, it is now proud flesh now me i would have got vet a while ago
the yo owner is the mother of whos horse it is, and she has told them alot and seem to think it will go away on its own, yo told them alot, and i have had a word and no response
But proud flesh can be easily got rid of by using good old fashioned dermobian every other day, unfortunately its no longer available, but maybe fusiderm would do the same job?? Definitely the vet would need to see it though to prescriba any kind of steroid based cream... they might even cut off the proud flesh!
Mmm intesting. Not sure what you mean by YO telling people a lot.....
But as the wound would appear to be infected (the leg looks swollen above) then it would seem that the horse is in need of veterinary treatment. Does the leg feel hot to touch??
I would tell them that you are going to ring their vet, not to call the vet out but to just run past them the situation as the horse is suffering. That way vet can decide whether to have a few words with them.
Its very difficult as it might make relationship with YO difficult but TBH the leg looks awful and I would put that first whatever the consequence.
personally i would mention it again and say the horse needs a vet . if they are not prepared to get a vet in then i would suggest it needs medical treatment every day.
if they dont listen then i would report it. but be prepared to be kicked off the yard as they will know its you. so look into finding somewere before you do.
keep us posted.... please
i have spoken to the yard owner about reporting it as i work for rspca taking calls on there behalf and i txt yard owner and said look they not doing out should i report it , she sed yes, bt becasue thye no i work for them they will no it me and i am very good ates with the horses owners daughters lol so i in tricky situation do i care about the horse enough to lost 3 of my best mates or do i keep my best mates

And probably end up being chucked off the yard for interferring.
I would suggest that she speak with the YO and says that she is very concerned about the horse as it would appear to have an infection. And she's mentioning it 'just in case no one had noticed' - and that it looks like it needs antibiotics.
Eiterh that or keep gob totally shut and ring the RSPCA.
If you do nothingabout this you are no better than your so called mates. As for your mates mother(YO) she should call the vet herself and get the bill sent to her daughter.
Alternatively you could report your "mate" and then text her and tell her you've just taken a call about her horse that way she doesn't suspect you!

A welfare agency wouldn't call her - they would call (if anyone) the owner of the property - in this case the YO.
But more likely - they will just turn out.
OP needs to keep her mouth firmly shut if she intends to go down the welfare road.
Why are some people loathe to call a vet for some injuries?
Some can be treated by oneself, but others just surprise me. Have known of some people not calling vet after incidents which really needed a vet check and a tetanus at least.
Or maybe I'm just too protective and need reassurance from vet these days.
OP I would also speak with YO, as AmyMay suggested, say you had noticed it and wondered if it was ok.
Blimey that looks more than proud flesh to me.
I always tend to err on the side of caution like when I go on holiday I leave a note signed by me saying if in any doubt Vet first ask me second.
