Slightly odd one. Paddock looks as if it has quite a lot of nice grass and a strip of fresh grass is opened up pretty much daily. Horse though seems to be not over keen on the grass and is preferring to eat hay put out which isn’t his normal approach. He seems hungry of the morning despite seemingly having a field of grass. That looks quite nice. Anyone have any thoughts? I’m going to get his teeth looked at again although were done at the start of the year

I am the other way, too much grass, getting it topped next week. I am making smaller areas but with as much movement as possible for grazing and really having to watch weight. At one point in the hot month i though I wasn't going to have any grass at all! They come inside for a few hours in the morning with a little hay which is not being finished so must be getting enough outside.

I use hay as my grass indicator! To keep the ponies' weight under control I try to make sure that they are always hungry enough to want a bit of hay, so, if they are not interested in hay I know they are getting too much grass and make a change to reduce the grass.
It is interesting to see how this changes over the year! Sometimes I think there isn't enough grass, but their hay indicator would indicate otherwise, and sometimes it is the opposite.

I've got too much grass. A dog on the footpath chased deer into my paddock this morning. Fortunately I was still there because they took the fence down and I had 3 horses acting like kids in a sweet shop in the rested field. This time last year I'd strip grazed half that field already.

Mine always get a bit of hay but they are very much after the grass. I'm hoping the sweetness will die down soon

My mare moved into a new field last month and there was lots of grass but, after an initial 'got to eat it all' couple of weeks (sloppy poo and not interested in hay or feed), she's now waiting at the gate to come in for her tea and eating a full haynet overnight. Glad to report that all poo is now back to normal!!

That’s useful to know. The grass can’t be filling them up much at all now.

Mine seemingly have loads of grass but get VERY excited when I distribute their haynet at nighttime.
I refuse them give them more than a net to share at night as they have tonnes of grass and eat hay for 6 hrs/ day when stood in their stables too 🙈

Thanks all for sharing though as I thought it was just my fussy ar*es, so glad to know I'm not alone
