okay so i've finally accepted a place at sussex university staring late september and have every intention on bringing my horse with me!
Only problem is i live in London and so have no idea of grass livery availability in east sussex and am starting to stress out that it'll be impossible to find somewhere for her to live while i'm at uni.
Uni is in east sussex, near lewes and falmer train station, and yard would ideally be accessable by bus as i have not passed my driving test yet (hopefully will have by sept tho!)
grass livery is also preferable as my mare loves to live out though would consider diy (if they were able to assist with some things like breakkie feed and turning out!
Would love if anyone knows places in the area i can get in touch with to express my interest in livery in september, or anyone who might have any suggestions!!! :-)
thanks guys!

First of all congratulations in your place a Sussex Uni.

I know a few livery yards on the north side of the Sussex Downs, however I do know some on here who may know of yards on the southern side. The only problem is most of the yards I know don't think are on a bus route. However, I can give you some contacts if you like. When do you hope to pass your test and where will you be living.
You may want to re-list your post and just mention livery needed near to Sussex University, Brighton, East Sussex rather than mentioning Nr Lewes.
PM me and we can communicate via email if you wish.

Sorry i have no idea of any yards around there, but im so happy ur taking ure horse to uni!!

Im at Uni with my two and dont know how id cope without them!! Most students sit in and watch tele or go drinking but i got or long amazing hacks and spend more time with the neddies now than i ever have. Its a good decision to make and stick at it cos theyre worth it :)

Good luck at uni!!

Hi. There's a DIY yard in falmer village within walking distance of the uni! If you go up in to falmer the village is split in two by the main road. It's on the left hand side at the back (same side as campus) and may just look like a farm. I think it's got a low stone wall and maybe some chickens! I had a pony there in my first term a few years ago now and used to ride him on to campus! They have a small sand school but it's pretty basic. Not sure if they can live out 24/7 but it's your closest place and the hackings good. I moved mine once I got a feel for the area and ended up in a lovely yard in henfield.

Aaah thank you so much for your help! Will be living on campus for my first year at least and hopefully will be able to bring a car with me so fingers crossed will be able to get to any yards easily enough :-)
will PM you for more details!!

Haha yeahh definately could not imagine being at uni horseless - shes been the biggest part of my life for the last two years and don't think I could manage without her, what would I do with my time?! would get driven mad by only going to lectures and then coming back and sleeping/watching tv - i need to be outside doing something a lil more worthwhile lol :)
Glad to hear you manage uni and neddies well and don't regret the occasional stress and bills bringing them with you has no doubt caused -they are definately worth it!!

Oh wow thats BRILL news, did not imagine I'd be lucky enough to find somewhere within walking distance!! Will definately have to have a wonder into falmer village and find this yard next time I go to sussex (which will hopefully be soon) and have a chat to the owner about potential livery! Do you remember the name of the yard and if they have contact details? And also do u remember how much it cost you a month as trying to pencil in livery costs to my living costs so i'm prepared!!
And don't think basic facilities will bother me at all ... the yard i'm at now doesn't have a proper arena but as long as hackings good i'm happy :-)
thank u tons!

I am at Sussex uni :) first years arn't allowed cars on campus unfortunetly so that could make life difficult if your planning on living on campus.

Yard wise there are 3 main yards that would be accessible by bus, South Downs at Brighton Racecourse and New Barn near portslade (though 2 buses would be required) Then there is the small yard in Falmer mentioned above (though never sure if that still exists!). OH and just thought of Hamseys its a riding school yard not sure if they do livery but that would be super easy to get too.

If you need any help when you come down give me a shout, I am a 2nd year but am local anyway :)

Yay its so good to hear from someone currently at sussex :-) i'm sure i'll hunt you down and be bugging you loads when i finally get there in october lol!!
Are you living on campus or do live at home? am a bit slow and didn't quite get that bit lol and where do you keep your horse/es??
Will have a looksie and see if i can find any of the yards mentioned on the internet, and if not, planning a day trip down to sussex soon so will have a snoop around and see what i think in person!! Is there any particular yard you would reccomend? and do you know if any of the yards do grass livery at all? Sorry for the mammoth amount of questions lol but you are a lifesaver!!
Alsoo... what do you think of the uni itself? so so excited to start in september :-)

i know this post is from ages ago but i am hoping to go to sussex university in september and was wondering if you could message me any contact details of yards near the university and how life with a horse was there? :) thanks

Hi I'm not sure how to message you but I know lots of liveries and contacts for around this area as I live and ride here :) message me for contacts but some names are: lower stoneham farm, just outside of Lewes 20 min drive or 29 bus straight from Uni. Hamsey riding school 5/10 mins away. A small nice yard near Lewes called little swanborough (hacking straight on the South Downs) and its about 15 mins from campus. If you want more let me know :)
